Drew Barrymore was born to John Drew Barrymore’s fourth wife and is the youngest child of the actor. Dana Michelle Plato led quite an interesting life, full of dizzying heights and earth-shattering lows. She came to fame as a child star but found out soon enough that early fame often has its own pitfalls. Best known as Kimberly Drummond, the older sister on TV's "Diff'rent Strokes," Dana went through a lot while never quite escaping the scrutiny of the media and fans ...

She is one of the most popular personalities in cyberspace, breaking records on MySpace, with a record breaking 1.4 million friends, as well as Facebook. Kaye, Don (April 15, 2013). During the same year, Plato once again turned herself in to authorities—this time for forging a prescription for the drug diazepam, which treats anxiety. For this offense, the judge wasn’t so lenient. Plato spent 30 days in prison because, in addition to the forgery, she had violated her probation. After serving her sentence, Plato started a drug rehabilitation program and soon found herself low on cash. Still, she tried to look on the bright side of this otherwise crummy situation. In 1977, when Dana was 13, she faced an important crossroads: either compete for a spot on the U.S. Olympic Figure Skating team, or star in a new TV sitcom. She chose the latter, and landed her big break in Hollywood playing Kimberly Drummond on the NBC sitcom Diff'rent Strokes. The sitcom - which also starred Gary Coleman, Todd Bridges and Charlotte Rae - launched Plato and her cast-mates to instant stardom. To cope with the pressures of their newly found fame, Plato and her young co-stars began living a hedonistic lifestyle off-set, indulging in pot and cocaine after hours. On May 8, 1999, Plato and Menchaca were returning to California and stopped at Menchaca's mother's home in Moore, Oklahoma, for a Mother's Day visit. [10] Later on in the visit, Plato said that she felt unwell and took a few doses of a hydrocodone / acetaminophen painkiller (Lortab), along with the muscle-relaxant carisoprodol (Soma), [47] and went to lie down with Menchaca inside her Winnebago motor home, which was parked outside the house. [10] Upon waking up, Menchaca and the family discovered that Plato had died in her sleep – initially assumed an accidental overdose but later ruled a suicide based on Plato's long history of substance use. [48] [49] [50] [51] Some of Plato's friends, including her former Diff'rent Strokes costar Todd Bridges, have publicly disagreed with the ruling. [52] Plato's body was cremated and her ashes were scattered over the Pacific Ocean. [53] Schwed, Mark. "Stripping for a Cause," United Press International (UPI), Friday, June 21, 1985. But rehab didn't take for Plato, who died of an overdose on May 8, 1999, at age 34. She was found dead in her RV, which she shared with fiancee Robert Menchaca, during a visit with family in Oklahoma. Her death was later ruled a suicide. Plato's son Tyler met a similar end on May 6, 2010, when he died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, also in Oklahoma. The 25-year-old was said to have been experimenting with drugs and alcohol at the time of his death. Plato struggled with substance abuse for most of her life. She was arrested in 1991 for robbing a video store, and again the following year for forging a drug prescription. On May 8, 1999, at age 34, Plato was found dead in her motor home from an overdose of prescription drugs. Her death was initially considered accidental, but later ruled a suicide. [5] [6] Her personal life, in retrospect, has been described as a "tragedy". [7] [8] [9] Early life [ edit ]
