Please note that this is a World Book Day 2020 special which is no longer available to buy new and used copies may be hard to come by. Utterly delightful. Centres on the importance of friendship and encourages children not to fear those who are different.’ Mail On Sunday

We don't know the name or gender of the narrator until the very end of the book. How does gender affect the telling of a story? Does it matter to you if the narrator is a boy or a girl? A story of a new boy in class called Ahmet, who is befriended by the main character and her 3 friends who learn from him about what it's like to be a refugee, overcome bullying together and help him find Ahmet's parents. Brilliant book and planning was aimed at Y4 but very easily adapted. Included are English and Humanities Knowledge Organisers which may help. Ten-year-old Aniyah and her little brother Noah find themselves living in foster care after the sudden disappearance of their mum. With her life in disarray, Aniyah knows just one thing for sure: her mum isn’t gone forever. He is struggling to adapt to his new life in London. Fortunately, there is a set of instant friends waiting in his new classroom all ready and eager to make a big difference to his life. If only solutions to situations like this were so simple. Saw is the past tense of the word see. Seen is the past participle of the word see, when you use seen it needs to be combined with have, has, had, was or were. Unfortunately even though this book is extremely important and was really beautiful, I can't give a rating to it because of the author's attitude when it comes to trans people, especially trans women.

Themes and topics:Migration and immigration, the refugee crisis, belonging, friendship, courage, tolerance, making a difference Homophones are words which sound the same but are spelt differently. Near homophones have very similar spellings and can sound very similar depending on how they are pronounced. I really liked this book because I never read a book about refugees before so that was new to me. I really liked the characters. They are super funny! I was really worried because there is this kid from Syria named Ahmet in third grade, just like me, but he doesn’t know English, lost his dad, lost his mom, his cat is dead AND no one knows what happened to his sister! Writing outcomes:A piece of persuasive writing, free writing, a letter to the Prime Minister, the next part of the story, a news broadcast, a speech and a news feature He’s nine years old (just like me), but he’s very strange. He never talks and never smiles and doesn’t like sweets – not even lemon sherbets, which are my favourite!

The bullying also put me off from things and along with the teacher caused me to give this book 0.5 stars less. I am sorry, I am a big no no against bullying, and then especially when bullies seem to get away quite often with the crap they pull. I am happy with the ending, HOWEVER, I would have liked some more repercussions for the boys. Because bullies will be bullies.

Did you know you can flag iffy content? Adjust limits for Violence & Scariness in your kid's entertainment guide. Get started Close Our narrator and her friends come up with a plan to reunite Ahmet with his family, and this leads all of them into a very big adventure. But would a gaggle of nine-year-olds write to Queen Elizabeth to ask her to support Ahmet and be naive enough to expect a reply? It was slightly cliched at the end. But don’t forget it is a children’s book and in the context it really worked. You wanted to cheer, you wanted best friends like Ahmet found, a head teacher like Mrs Saunders and those biscuits that were eaten on the tube. Lots of those please!
