As a somewhat lonely “army brat” – born in Northumberland but raised in Belfast, Cyprus, Germany, Dorset and Warwickshire – Doherty read Percy Shelley, Oscar Wilde and George Orwell.

As one of The Libertines frontmen and one half of the most written about couples of the Noughties thanks to his tempestuous relationship with Kate Moss, Pete Doherty has quite a few stories up his sleeves. With his trademark wit and humour, Doherty also details his childhood years, key influences, pre-fame London shenanigans, and reflects on his era-defining relationship with Libertines co-founder Carl Barât and other significant people in his life. I enjoyed the book nonetheless, and it nips along at a pace, albeit with a superficiality and fundamental lack of substance.I wanted her to prove her love, so I said, You’ve got to get a tattoo with my initials on, you’ve got to get branded – it was more more of an insecurity thing on my part. Hard drugs, tiny gigs on the hoof, huge stadium shows, collaborations, gangsters, and groupies, Doherty has led a life of huge highs and incredible lows. A Likely lad is reminiscent of an amalgamation of two other ghost-written memoirs; Mike Tyson: Undisputed Truth and and John McEnroe: Seriously. All of our books are 100% brand new, unread and purchased directly from the publishers in bulk allowing us to pass the huge savings on to you!

At Books2Door, we believe that reading is a fundamental skill that every child should have to help improve their vocabulary, grammar, and critical thinking skills. To me it paints a very accurate and important picture of drug abuse and addiction and to talk about it so openly isn’t to glorify it. Drugs naturally feature quite prominently in this biography, but Doherty never seems to glorify or glamorize them; quite the opposite in fact.Hope he'll continue writing and playing and drawing and doing all sorts of art for many years to come. But that was before he found his drug use move from recreational dabbling, to crippling dependency and an addiction that took many attempts at recovery before finally getting clean.

In addition, there isn't any insight into why Pete was driven to such olympian levels of self-destruction. For fans, it’s certainly worth a read, particularly for anecdotes about the making of his albums, his memories of concerts (many of which can be found online) and how particular songs were written. This despite a trail of death, squandered money, a kid he barely saw, unreliability, prison sentences and so on.One of the more shocking revelations in the memoir is that Doherty has recently found God and appears to be largely of sober mind during recent years, which makes the self-imposed tragedy of his life somewhat more bearable when reading. The story they gave to the NME about “shagging old men in hotel rooms,” was later amplified in the tabloids as Doherty being a rent boy, which wasn’t true.
