About this deal

Compost quality and harvesting: the quantity and quality of the compost and liquid produced and whether the worms were thriving. Not only will these help keep in that much needed moisture in the bin, it will also help keep the system dark, since worms prefer it more that way (they can be very sensitive to light and vibrations since they’re born with no eyes and ears, and only rely on their senses).

This clever design incorporates built in mounds to encourage worms to move from the collector trays to working trays, features a unique flow through ventilation system to maximise performance and no mess extras like well-designed legs and a drip free tap. Our testers found the trays easy to handle but that the “stop” between them prevented worms from working upwards, even though aeration was improved. Within the Can-O-Worms® built in mounds encourage worms to move from the collector trays to the working trays. You should also take out leftover scraps (if there are any) as these may cause an odor build-up in the system later on.

So make sure to steer clear from raw materials being placed in the Worm Bin, such as stuff that are salty, oily, spicy, citrus-based, meat, poultry, and seafood. The worms work their way up through the mesh base of each layer as they fill up and another tray is added. An outbuilding or porch is a good place, some models can even be kept in the kitchen, but be aware they can start to smell if left. These worms will also be the ones to help recycle your organic scraps at home, so it’s just suitable to look out for them, as if they were like your pets. The liquid produced by water and condensation running down through the wormery makes an excellent plant feed, it is no more than that, it MIGHT have collected a few bugs and a tiny amount of nutrient but the time you have diluted by the “20:1 ratio” recommended every where you might as well just water the plants! Recommended Location – your Can-O-Worms wormery can be used outdoors or indoors – it’s perfect for in a shed or a shaded location in your garden (put it somewhere that’s convenient for you but that avoids afternoon sun), on a balcony, in a utility room etc etc. You will need to drain your wormery using an included tap or outlet every few days and the liquid can be diluted to a 1:10 ratio of water and used to feed your plants. Once the bedding is well moisten I pickup the bucket of worms I have collected from my breeding trays and various bins. Adding an extra Working Tray to your worm farm will allow your worm population to grow, increasing the amount that you can feed your worms.

Worm Blanket – this is used to cover the waste contents of the wormery and helps to create an a dark, moist, aerated environment that encourages the worms to work efficiently. Id been using the trays as planters for a good 6 years, but now im in a position to get back to my roots, and get some wrigglers back in there. It is important to make sure you use only composters in your Can-O-Worms since earthworkers will not do well. Once you’ve emptied the tray it moves to the top of the wormery – in this way your organic waste will constantly be recycled. The worms will then start to feed on your waste, it may take them days or even weeks to get stuck in, do not be tempted to keep adding more and more food, once you see the worms really active in this layer then add another, slightly larger mug full, only add more when you see the food disappearing, continue this until the whole tray surface is covered don’t feed to a depth of more than a couple of inches or 5cm.

This is a 2-tier model (one leachate collection and two active trays) and I will be preparing one of the two trays which will be the current feeding tray.

Heed their needs, and they’ll be able to produce for you some nutrient-rich and valuable source of compost.
