Charles Dance starred in this BBC television adaptation of Maureen Duffy’s darkly disturbing novel, Gorsaga. Dieser Film gehört zu den Filmen, die man immer wieder ansieht (wie für mich: Phantom of paradies, ein Lied über Liebe und Tod, microcosmos)! It’s a subculture of beings with different kinds of abilities – but each ability comes with a downside. The three-part serial was written by Ted Whitehead and adapted from the novel Gor Saga by Maureen Duffy. Dance has to hide the true origin of the hybrid, because he’s told his colleagues that the sperm for the hybrid came from an orangutan.

I am thinking that BBC might release it, as they seem to be releasing loads of old mini series on dvd just now. The subject matter is probably more pertinent today than it was when the show was released--definitely ahead of its time. To pile on the horrors (and the dire warnings about the dangers of playing God) Forester’s incestuous daughter Nell gave birth to Gor’s child, who was plainly a hybrid. I originally saw this series on the Sci-Fi Channel at Christmas 2005 and I thought it was an interesting and very well acted drama.A three-part British tale about Gor, a gorilla-human hybrid born as the result of a bizarre genetics experiment. Eventually, he succeeds and the rest of the serial follows the growth into adulthood of young Gor (short for Gordon as well as the obvious) as he braves the sorts of things we all have to when our mum’s a gorilla: not being able to speak, having colossal strength and being born with a fur coat.

till I was wrapping up my Genetics unit with Designer Babies from Discovery, and Gattaca as preludes to some ethical discussions with my students. The part I liked about this movie and if I even have it right, she wasn't experiencing post partum, that lady was evil and using her baby. First Born" takes you to the next level with its deliberate and skillful ability to "twist the staircase" as you ascend, so to speak. namkoin Gonna throw in possibly the very last gasp for more intelligent children's drama not mentioned here: 'Life Force', made by Peter Tabern's Childsplay Television (who also produced the Cooper-penned.Yesterday, I was so excited by the impending release of Dark Season and Century Falls that I forgot to check the Action TV DVD news page to see if there was anything else coming out this month that would be worth watching.

The other, coming out at almost the same time, was this effort, First Born, written by Ted Whitehead from a novel by Maureen Duffy. After Madoc tells Dance that the project is being shut down, and that the hybrid, ‘Gordon’ must be destroyed, Dance gets his colleague, played by Peter Tilbury, to look after him, because he and his wife had no children. Don't remember much about the details of this drama but the one resounding message I still remember is the underlying theme that scientists do what they do because they CAN but seldom stop to consider whether they SHOULD. Hearst UK is the trading name of the National Magazine Company Ltd, 30 Panton Street, Leicester Square, London, SW1Y 4AJ.Considering the incredible advances made in gene manipulation since then, I believe this is a series that should be seen by everyone. After Dance’s daughter’s christening, Dance’s sister-in-law is arguing with Madoc about the morality of genetic experimentation. He successfully creates one, a baby boy, which, although it starts off hair, soon grows to be indistinguishable from a human baby.

The storyline is similar but the TV adap has a far more brutal and thought-provoking 'ending' and the character of Forrester has far more depth. This series warned us that we are all mere mortals and that there are no vacancies for the position of God. For anyone interested, it's based on a novel Gor-Saga by Maureen Duffy (which I promptly went out and bought! Stableford described the program as a "knee-jerk hymn of hate against scientists in general" and "a kind of dumbed-down Doomwatch episode expanded to three times its natural length".You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice.
