Job cards get you cash and grant you a special action which can range from moving a figure or stealing money out of people’s suitcase, to carrying out the game changing “Car Bomb” action. Based on The Godfather movie starring Marlon Brando and Al Pacino, Last Family Standing is the ultimate adult game for game night. We don’t share your credit card details with third-party sellers, and we don’t sell your information to others. It also flows smoothly from start to finish – while the number of options you have each turn seems limited, the scope and effect of those actions makes for a challenging, cut-throat, but ultimately enjoyable game experience for all. But as is the case with games with well thought out interaction, because these actions are not once-per-game take that moments, it feels a bit less mean when everyone's doing it—it's nothing personal, just the way the game is played.

Here’s an offer you can’t refuse: a board game adaptation of one of the greatest movies ever made, by one of the best tabletop designers working today. It’s what you do with the stuff that’s interesting: Instead of placing a worker, a player can complete a “job” for Don Corleone by paying the required mix of booze, guns, and blood money. If you can live slow players and positively relish the thought of devastating your mates’ plans then this is a game for you. Rather fittingly for a board game that will inevitably result in drawling impressions of Marlon Brando and Al Pacino, there’s a pleasing sense of theatricality to many of the elements.Like Lang's other designs, this is a simple game, but it consists of multiple subtle layers that interact. Immerse yourself in the world ruled by the Godfather and his influential grande famiglia by playing this premium edition of MONOPOLY: The Godfather.

You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. I find some of the logos at the bottom quite distracting from the overall graphic design, but aside from that, the box is quite visually striking. I also appreciate how the secret bidding is handled by putting your chosen amount in the lid of your suitcase before the whole table reveals their bid simultaneously.

Players play as mob bosses vying for control of rackets in various neighbourhoods to gain the most money and become the Godfather. There aren’t many games that combine worker placement, set collection and area control quite so cleverly, enjoyably at this.

Straining your voice to mimic Marlon Brando's “make him an offer he can’t refuse” line from The Godfather is an American pastime. This powerful effect feels quite fulfilling when you receive a handful of bonus goods, and it's a direct representation of the power that comes from ruling a local criminal hierarchy. When all is said and done, you take control of the neighbourhoods that you've committed more of your thugs and family members to, earning a cut of whatever happens in those neighbourhoods in the next round. You’ll be doing this through four acts (each named after the movie’s acts) by plopping down thugs and family members who’ll shake down businesses and exert their influence over the city. For starters every player gets their own set of miniatures made of a few thugs and several family members, as well as a beautiful hinted tin made to look like a suitcase in which you’ll be hiding cash throughout the game. However, they are incredible films that showcase some of the best technical achievements of American cinema. Every single job card, and the back of every card in the game, features the exact same picture of Don Corleone. The map can still feel a little empty at game end when playing with smaller groups, as the varying setup leads to fewer buildings and certain regions being less fought over, but is cleverly designed to avoid players never coming into contact with each other, ensuring that battles over territory – the crux of the game – spark off with just as much ferocity.
