Thanks Randy, this is just the advice I needed to read - and wanted to read tbh - as I'm enamored of the idea. I see the few slight drawbacks mentioned above as small engineering challenges which I can overcome if they prove to be long term problems.

I replaced an Erika 85 (with all the accessories) with a Minimax 16” Bandsaw and haven’t regretted my decision for a moment. There’s always just a little bit of "drift" that prevents you from getting precise cuts even when you are using a fence.I would advise that, when you make the fence, you make it long enough to reach the full dimension of the table from front to back (front meaning the side you stand on to push wood through the blade), but maybe that is already obvious to you. Do you have any suggestions for improving fences on small (10in) bandsaws such as the Lumberjack I think you trialled a couple of years ago? Once I had had the table modified by adding a flat bar to the front edge, deep enough to allow for the fixing, all was well. Sylvain, I keep hearing of such things, along with ‘blade drift’, yet on all of my bandsaws through 55years I have never drifted nor have I ever used anything but a straight and parallel fence with no issues. I used the miter guide to cut triangular braces, making sure that one side was about half as tall as the fence.

Hey everyone, I’m a beginner at woodworking but recently acquired an old delta 28-560 bandsaw that’s got a really nice cast iron top with a miter slot. I usually just clamp a piece of wood for a fence when I need it, but the magnetic fence sounds like a great idea. Woodworking is your worldwide home for discussion of all things woodworking, carpentry, fine furniture, power tools, hand tools, and just about anything else about making - anything - from trees! A hardwood spacer pushes the rail away from the front of the bandsaw table so the fence can ride on it.The fence which fit my Delta Bandsaw table was pre-drilled that matched the existing hole pattern on the table.

With carbide blades being available for similar money to a standard blade these days, or soon enough if ya just can't speak Chinese, seems that there maybe a market for this sorta thing on this side of the pond soon.I have a Rikon bandsaw with pretty much the same fence your bandsaws came with and I too replaced it with a Kreg. I'm resawing the wood so I can "book match" the sides of the box, making it look like all sides of the box are one continuous grain pattern. Since I set the saw up according to a standard set of steps each time I change the blade, I can use the front of the saw's table as a reference point for distance from the blade when resawing.
