It's just an album of cool, interesting artwork in different locations across Europe with a bit of trivia about them and very flimsy storyline, which had potential to be quite good actually.

Also, sometimes the dialogue dragged scenes and made no sense, which I guess is to be expected with two poisoned people. Future artists providing stunning overlay paints will include Diego Latorre (Dante's Inferno) and Jock (Detective Comics), with the first issue painted by none other than Jim Lee! I’m here for the banter and watching them actually work and plan together, and the book does a terrific job! You miss the Joker–remember when he was so awfully cool and you just enjoyed watching Batman catch him and beat him in the face repeatedly? Joker quips on how having the villain reside in italy makes perfect sense, as some of the worlds greatest villains such as Nero and Mussolini resided there.Although short, this miniseries proves to be quite a memorable ride that brings the Dark Knight and the Clown Prince of Crime to take a trip outside of their hometown. However it does differ and i loved the artwork, how erratic it becomes as the virus begins to spread and batman is hallucinating and joker is doing his best to support the guy, by support i mean torment the ever living shit out of him, but y'know in an endearing way. The moral quandary, however, leads to a viscerally horrific solution and some fascinating introspection…which, once again, is resolved in a manner I didn’t really care for. None of it was spectacular or that special and if you read a lot of comics, like anyone that picks this up is likely to do, then you’ll see styles you’ve seen before. Forcing Batman and Joker together in this manner is an excellent catalyst for examining their relationship, however, there is very little of that.

As a Joker fan dissatisfied with the character’s current portrayal in comics but a major fan of Batman: The Animated Series and The Dark Knight (2009) portrayals, I found this Joker delightful.I wasn’t bothered by it at all, but then I could read two-hundred pages of Batman and Joker watching paint dry and commenting on their hangnails, and probably be riveted. Batman and The Joker were each given different pieces of the larger puzzle, and neither can solve the mystery without the other! I thought it was a really nice touch that as the virus took hold the artwork gets rougher and broader, signifying their physical and mental deterioration and loss of clarity. The situation between the two is definitely symbiotic, and authors Matteo Casali and Brian Azzarello balance them very well with done key moments of frenemies fun. To make it even more interesting though, Paris is also the Joker's favorite city they visit (opposite viewpoints coming to the same conclusion yet again.

Their exploration of Batman and Joker with this overarching premise brings them to test our level of comfort and tolerance, but when you look between the lines, you can see that their ideas explore the rawest form of both of these character’s dynamic. The basic outline for the story is, Batman and The Joker have both been infected with a virus and only have one week to live. Graphic Novels Batgirl (comic) Batgirl and the Birds of Prey: Rebirth (comic) Batman (comic) Batman ’66 (comic) Batman ’66 Meets the Man From U. The banter between them is truly intriguing and continuously stimulates your curiosity as you feverishly scratch your heard trying to figure out whose behind everything. H. Williams III, Juan Ferreyra, and Lee Bermejo (high praise from me since, as I mentioned before, I haven’t exactly been fond of Lee’s work recently).

I liked the idea of forcing Batman and Joker having to work together and playing off each other's strengths. If you want to know the ending, I won’t spoil it here, but you can listen to this episode of the CBMFP to find out the answer.

After, hey big shock a minature history lesson of Rome, We find our main characters going back and forth about WHO could have possibly sent them down this path of insanity. If you’re one of those weird people like me who actually enjoyed history class in high school, you’ll dig it. Thankfully, Casali/Azzarello’s script provides some really great moments between the two adversaries. Framing it all is some wonderful artwork that doesn’t always match the story, but is still beautiful in any context. The Dark Knight is finally facing an enemy that even he can t defeat a deadly, custom-engineered virus that will drive him mad and then kill him within a week. First Thus-" The greatest talents of American and European comics unite for a Batman story like none other! Who infected Batman, what does the Clown Prince of Crime know, and how will the Dark Knight get that information? And while the story takes four chapters to set the stage for this question, it’s already answered it by having Batman team up with the Joker. This week, all four issues of Batman: Europa are finally being released as a hardcover (or digitally for your Kindle).
