About this deal

I thoroughly enjoyed Date with Evil, which is an amusing cosy with a sharp edge that doesn’t shy away from the worst in human nature. It tied the narrative strands from the previous books together very well, though I still don't understand exactly how international crime and money laundering work! It will be interesting to see the TV series if/when that happens, but make sure you read the books first if you can.

The reader knows who it is as the novel is told from various points of view, but they don’t know the lengths he will go to or why. It opens with Delilah Metcalfe of Bruncliffe’s Dales Detective Agency struggling to meet the mounting demands for the agency’s services. Its distinctive landscape and way of life provide the setting for her latest set of novels, the Dales Detective series. No bad language, sex scenes or violence that is graphic, just implied so books are suitable for all.

In the eighth novel in the Dales Detective series, Date with Evil, Samson and Delilah are about to discover that all of their new cases may be connected to a network of evil that seems to be surrounding Bruncliffe. Still, I feel that this is a series that I would advise is best to read from the beginning, which is something that I hope to do in the upcoming months.Overall I think this is totally worth it, it has all the cozy vibes one could want, characters that are fun and with depth, a dog that is the most lovable thing, a slight romantic touch and a lot of mystery.

Romantic attachments that have been bubbling for a while are cemented, whilst the untrustworthy members of the town have been routed. I was so nervous and excited to pick up this book, the village of Bruncliffe with it's overly familiar residents, inter-related families, cake, tea. As usual, the secondary characters are highly entertaining, and many play an important role in this volume. This latest instalment had the now expected mix of mystery, comedy and acutely observed village life. This is the first book I've read waiting for its release - because I discovered The Dales Detective when the previous books were already published - and I read them, one after the other, last year. The obvious exception is the perpetrator, who is, in melodramatic fashion, particularly evil and sociopathic. My goodness I was racing through the pages to find out what happened/who did what/ who would survive.

It doesn’t help that both his detective agency and Delilah’s business are lettered the same, ‘DDA’ and in the same building! From stolen washing to inheritance investigations, Bruncliffe's Dales Detective Agency is being inundated with cases. The author has brought to life the North Yorkshire landscape and populated it with wonderful characters. But with Samson O'Brien still in London helping the Met Police clear his name, and the newly appointed member of the investigations team, Ida Capstick, distracted by her brother George's insistence that their farm is haunted, Delilah Metcalfe is struggling to meet the mounting demands for the agency's services.
