About this deal

However, given that season one doesn't cover all the events of the book, we can probably expect the show to get picked up for a second instalment that covers both the rest of Firefly Lane - Kristin Hannah's New York Times best-selling book of the same name - and its sequel, Fly Away. Tully had begun to plummet at her best friend's death and she hadn't been able to pull out of the dive. She shows a realistic example of what can happen to a family and friendship after the death of a matriarch. It made the story feel very twisty-turny and like you were living through Tully and Marah’s depressions alongside them. This one is more about Marah and Tully and we get to learn all about Tully's mom Cloud, now going by Dorothy again.

And also be like, ‘Oh, I’m surprised by this, but it’s cool because it’s in the spirit of the book, but it’s a different thing. Kristin Hannah’s books although novels and fiction are REAL, I love the reality based stories she tells. Natalie: the complexity of the way the story is told —the multiple perspectives (Marah, Dorothy, Tully), use of flashback and telling through Tully’s comatose state with Katie as part of the story. Some of the ambiance of Firefly Lane was lost in this book, because it’s pretty much set in the modern time in a hospital, but the setting is still really strong throughout. Eventually, the tone darkens and the story narrows to focus on Jude as the pain of his past cuts deep into his carefully constructed life. We have addiction, cutting, family estrangement, rape, institutionalization and forced electroshock therapy, and I could keep going. They laughed with Tully and cried with Kate and anguished over Tully's fractured relationship with her mother. Prolific novelist Hannah revisits the characters, known to fans as “KateandTully,” of her bestselling Firefly Lane in this slow-paced but largely well-executed sequel.

I encourage readers to peruse FIREFLY LANE before beginning this book, although FLY AWAY is also a stand alone novel. Dorothy clearly was bipolar, which her detox doctor discovered when she finally stopped using, but at the time of her youth, it was not understood nor treated.

I read the first book Firefly Lane after watching the Netflix series of the same name, and purchased this sequel straight away as I wanted to know what happened next. I was so absolutely disappointed with this book and nearly jumped for joy when it was finally finished.
