DISSOLVING CLASSROOM collects seven new short horror stories from Japan's master of horror comics Junji Ito. Whereas Junji Ito’s Cat Diary was Ito going slightly out of his usual remit, Junji Ito’s Dissolving Classroom is very much in his established playbox and that’s definitely a great thing. Junji Ito is known as the prevailing modern master of horror manga, his work includes Usumaki, Gyo , an award-winning adaptation of Frankenstein and the collections Fragments of Horror and Lovesickness.

Putting much the same plot on loop dampens the punch a bit (oh, these heady days where a room full of human proto-flesh rotting away fails to sustain its own surreal horror after the third samey page). Each chapter focuses on a different aspect of how Yuuma and Chizumi interact with the world, featuring them in various settings including Yuuma's high school, Yuuma's dating life, an apartment complex, Chizumi's first experience with love, and on the run from reporters and police. Ultimately, Yuuma's apologies result in the brains of everyone at the high school, Keiko's parents, and even Keiko herself.It turns out, for his sister, Chizumi who apparently is a demon possessed by a snake, devoted to devil worship. Nao originally meets Yuuma as her childhood friend's boyfriend, but he breaks up with her friend to be with Nao.
