Ok, seriously before we start talking about this article, all I intended to do was try instar vintage paint and say ‘its good, bad, cool and good, etc’. It’s also cheap as heck for what you get, the 50ml bottle cost me very little and would do an entire army with ease, so mission accomplished Instar!

Citadel Base paints are high quality acrylic paints specially formulated for basecoating your Citadel miniatures quickly and easily. Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Gibraltar, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, United Kingdom. So, all of these miniatures where painted with five kinds of dark green paint by three different manufacturers. As you suggest, those which are the same as their Surface Primer range are designed for military vehicles, and will be a bit dully/earthy in comparison.

It’s still not as precise as the layer -> wash -> touch up -> highlights 1/2 method but it takes a hell of a lot less time.

As with all of the Citadel paints, it is a non-toxic, water-based acrylic paint designed for use on plastic, metal, and resin Citadel miniatures. The green is highlighted on all the models with Warboss Green and then hit with a second highlight of Skarsnik Green as this isn’t as jarring to my eye as the official GW method of Warpstone to Moot Green.Out of all the paints this is the one where I could say it would work with 2 thin coats, no touch up needed.

It feels more latex like than the other paints, which is dead-on for how I remember the old citadel paints ‘feeling’. Brush Matters: Choose the right brush size for the area you’re painting to maintain control and precision. The Citadel Air paints pair seamlessly with the rest of the Citadel Colour range, featuring a thinner formulation that makes them work perfectly with airbrushes.

After the second coat, we get additional info that it does indeed do the whole ‘BASE’ function well. For a more reliable source the Halfords spray paints range is generally good and has all sorts of colours. The high pigment count of these paints means they provide excellent coverage, giving you a base of rich colour to paint over. They’ll produce a run of a certain color, it sells out, and maybe later another run of that color will be made. I've already tried Army Painter Angel Green and I wasn't impressed by how thick it goes on even at 14" away.
