For the second book running (Humankind was the first) I am left wondering why I am so ignorant of what is going on under my nose, and why even the liberal media fails to spotlight these stories of hope more clearly. It surpassed my expectations and is a must read for anyone concerned with the state of the political, social, economic and environmental situation we find ourselves in, and in particular for anyone who finds themselves feeling powerless. In summary, Ed assumes that liberal democracy - strange term given that it pre-defines the answer (liberalism) and then asks the question (democracy) - is guaranteed to continue unabated. Mr Miliband’s signature policies – such as opening a national investment bank, targeting regional infrastructure and encouraging business investment with tax incentives – continue to be pinched by the current government. And then there's this incredible forgiveness she has for the person she tracked down who was part of the killing.

Ed presents all the information in such a way that one feels engaged, and like they understand the problem and how we might go about fixing it.Ed Miliband has captured imaginations with his award-winning hit podcast Reasons to be Cheerful, which discovers brilliant people all around the world who are successfully fixing problems, transforming communities and pioneering global movements. From a citizens' assembly in Mongolia to the UK's largest walking and cycling network in Greater Manchester, from flexible working in Finland to the campaign for the first halal Nando's in Cardiff, Go Big draws on the most imaginative and ambitious of these ideas to provide a vision for how to remake society. At every turn, the capitalist class was not eliminated but merely temporarily bought off, sent away with tidy pay-offs to bide its time, waiting for the tide to turn.

My one criticism is that it doesn’t include an action plan for the arts, for which Britain has long needed a Rooseveltian new deal. Market-driven instability and the environmental crisis are profound challenges that require equally large solutions.

Overall, I would recommend this book to anyone interested in the UK politics, especially now as we are in dire need of knowing that things can get better in the dumpster fire that is UK politics right now. The point of Miliband’s proposals are not to aid the working class in winning its struggles; nor even to gently popularise a limited form of economic democracy which could at some later date be adopted wholesale. It’s not hard to see why: only those with a heart of stone could fail to be faintly outraged at the way he was treated by the press throughout his tenure as leader of the Labour Party, not least being cast in the role of Cain to his odious and entitled brother’s Abel.

Go Big – How To Fix Our World”, the title of Ed Miliband’s new book, has an unfortunate double meaning. It would be wrong to say ‘Go Big’ is Miliband’s comeback from the political wilderness, he still hold a front-bench shadow cabinet position. This new and fully updated edition follows Ed through the highs of leading the charge against Rupert Murdoch and News International to the lows of plummeting poll ratings, poor press and that infamous ‘Blackbusters’ tweet. Against the backdrop of a personal rehabilitation emerges this new book, boldly entitled “GO BIG”, based on Miliband’s successful and often entertaining podcast “Reasons to be Cheerful”. Please note that your continued use of the Acast service will be deemed an acceptance of this update.I was surprised as I don't listen to the podcast and my impression of Miliband was not overly positive based on his political persona but this book is very personable. But the media decided long before the bacon sandwich incident that he was a nerdy no-good and the view widely prevails that “the wrong Miliband” got the gig – that David would have been electable in 2015 and therefore saved us from even more unnecessary austerity and the calamity of Brexit. Read more about the condition New: A new, unread, unused book in perfect condition with no missing or damaged pages. In the absence of such a force, things will continue to degenerate, and all the eclectic books of good ideas in the world will not make the slightest bit of difference. It's refreshing to hear Ed's take on the albeit not so new 'big' ideas that are available to politicians now that could go some way to solving the most pressing issues of our times.

Almost alone among my friends, I liked and admired Ed Miliband, renewing my on-off relationship with the Labour Party having watched his first speech to conference live on TV. I was left with such an unusual feeling that I didn't at first realise what it was, and then I remembered: optimism. But to cast this as one individual’s attempt to launder his own reputation would be both fruitless and would miss the wider point.

For the past four years, Ed Miliband has been discovering and interviewing brilliant people all around the world who are successfully tackling these problems, transforming communities and pioneering global movements.
