So when I see someone heartbroken and hysterical I almost want to be like, 'You're so lucky, shut up. It felt like reading the diary of a permanent teenager, if that’s the kind of book you enjoy, go for it.

Fox admitted in an interview with the New Yorker that the book wasn’t edited, and you can unfortunately tell. Julia Fox is famous for many things: her captivating acting, such as her breakout role in the film Uncut Gems; her trendsetting style, including bleached eyebrows, exaggerated eyeshadow and cutout dresses; her mastery of social media. For six months, at age 18, she worked as a dominatrix at night while going to high school during the day. I don’t wanna give too much of it away because I am very superstitious, so I don’t like to speak of things before they’re finished,” she told Variety.

I would have loved to hear more about her acquaintence with the Safdies but also understand for brevity's sake she couldn't exactly address every single scene she passed through. In one passage, Fox has a miscarriage in the toilet of a bar without knowing she was pregnant, gets back at a fellow dominatrix who peed on her clothes in the dungeon where she works by pouring an enema bag of her own excrement into her locker, and overdoses on various substances multiple times. She inspired the character in her break out role in the Safdie Brothers’ Uncut Gems and has acted in numerous films since. If you know her only for her association with Kanye, their relationship is barely one chapter of the book, and really does not compare to the rest of her story.

Come down the travelators, exit Sainsbury's, turn right and follow the pedestrianised walkway to Crown Walk and turn right - and Coles will be right in front of you. There's a sense that much of this narrative is fictionalized and glossed over -- and for good reason, as you'll find a majority of these stories are pretty unflattering for all involved, and not to its detriment -- but everything is well-told and dishy. You think you've read it all, and then there's Julia Fox, whose debut memoir proved that reading can be a physical activity—one of us lost our breath about 100 pages in. Her Italian heritage is important to the novel’s context, as she alternates between living in the United States and Italy several times over the course of her early life. Other pages are littered with graphic accounts of domestic and sexual abuse, beginning when Fox is a young child.

She also opens up about her brief time working as a dominatrix, landing her role in the Adam Sandler film Uncut Gems, and later dating an individual she only describes in the book as "the artist" but is clearly rapper West, 46.

She talks a lot in the book about how often she has felt alone, but she has always been a girl’s girl, and now she’s somewhat of a role model to women and a gay icon, and even watching her press tour for this book she has been on stage with Madonna and doing panels alongside children’s entertainer Ms. Fox has also taken to Instagram to unveil to front and back covers, captioning the post: “DOWN THE DRAIN IS FINALLY HERE! For myself – but also for anyone else that has been in a fucked up situation and then has to carry that weight around forever after.

It’s quite possible she could open up about her brief dating history to Kanye West — and disclose some of his quirks — take us down the rabbit hole that is her eccentric (yet iconic) fashion choices, and even casually chat about being Josh Safdie’s “muse.
