There are many books out there aimed at unicorn-loving little girls, but this book is so much more and so much better than that. Margaret's whole world changes when her family moves to a cottage by the sea to be near her grandma. Now I know what the author was going for, but the way it was written sounded an awful lot like the unicorn ate Margaret's hand off. A perfect read for unicorn lovers, this beautiful and utterly transporting picture book tells the story of what every little girl wishes would happen to her: a girl finds and takes care of a lost baby unicorn. It's gorgeously illustrated, but I found the story poorly written and the end was a bit lack luster.She has illustrated numerous picture books in the UK, including Little Bear’s Spring, Tooth Fairy in Training, The Giant’s Necklace, and Grab That Rabbit! I love what happens in the story with Margaret’s grandma telling her all about how she used to spot unicorns when she was a girl and what the unicorns eat and drink.

With all the feel of a classic, here is a picture book young readers will want to revisit again and again. Margaret feels like a kindred spirit and I adored everything about this book, the illustrations, the storytelling, and the magic.And though Margaret misses him, she has made a new friend, and her new cottage is starting to feel like home. Overall it’s a lovely story in general though, and despite the ending I still find the main story really lovely and magical to read, especially when you look at all of the illustrations too! The book and story feels so magical and a bit like an old fashioned storybook with Margaret finding a unicorn on its own and taking it home to be looked after over the winter months.
