There’s not much I like about it, but to Penny’s credit, it’s suspenseful and fast-paced enough (once Julia finally turns up dead) to keep me reading.Armand suspects that Julia Martin, Irene's daughter, has been murdered and he sets out to find the killer. They interview each family member, the crane company man who mounted the statue, as well as the artist of the statue himself. Armand Gamache was his usual charming self and this time his charming wife was very much in evidence too. This book has two main themes: cowardice/bravery and, as Gamache says, “paradise lost”—having it all and losing it.Gamache is forced to confront the fact that his assumption that the killer was one of the family was wrong—and almost caused the death of a child. So, even if the sugar made it easier to move, I bet Pierre had to put some shoulder work into the effort.
