Some of the data that are collected include the number of visitors, their source, and the pages they visit anonymously. A true first edition with this title NOT listed in the list ot titles on the copyright page which states 'Babar's Cousin: That Rascal Arthur' (1948) as the last title and 6 previous titles (not listed is 'The ABC of Babar' (1934) for some reason) by Jean de Brunhoff.

He made oil paintings for adult collectors, and those which survive are likewise quite conservative and finished. Folio commissioned Hokyoung Kim for the artwork, while the late author’s wife, Wendy Benchley, provides a fascinating new introduction. So “a certain idea of France,” in de Gaulle’s phrase, is at the heart of the appeal of the Babar books. Jean de Brunhoff wrote and illustrated seven Babar books; the series was continued by his son, Laurent de Brunhoff. He came from a family of artists perched on the ledge—a broad one in the France of his time—between fine-arts painting and book and fashion illustration.

Note that some of the illustrations have annotations which have been amended back into English from the original French. The stories were originally told to their second son, Mathieu, when he was sick, by his wife Cecile de Brunhoff. The boys were so captivated by her creation that they asked their artist father to illustrate the story. By now, of course, a controversial literature is possible about anything, and yet to discover that there is a controversial literature about Babar is a little shocking— faut-il brûler Babar?

In summary, this is an essential children's book but whilst the paperback edition is large and colourful, it is obviously not a robust as a hardback book. First, Babar's mother is killed by a hunter, but at the end of the book when Babar sets up his perfect elephant society, the idea that a human can come in a shoot a citizen is never addressed. Mindscape released Babar and the Royal Coin Caper for the PC in 2005, Both Babar and Cornelius are voiced by Daniel Davies and Dave Pender.
