Description

It is a bit long so I had to break it into sections to keep children’s attention but it was a fun read. Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain by Verna Aardema is a delightful rhyming story full of bright and vivid illustrations by Beatriz Vidal. I think a perfectly consistent rhythm would have veered in the direction of boring and singsongy text, so it’s good to see the “rules” judiciously broken.

Strength/weaknesses: The repetitive pattern gives the reader a pleasant sensation of predictability which could possibly help enable emerging readers to work their way through the text. Now using this bow and arrow he shot to the clouds, and like a balloon, the clouds burst into the water and rained till the grass became green. When the large, looming black cloud finally appears, it visually dominates the page in a way that the drought has so far dominated the lives of the characters within Nandi. Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain is a children's book written by Verna Aardema and illustrated by Leo and Diane Dillon. Numbers 6: 24-26 Bible Verse, Scripture Wall Art, Bible Quote, Bible verse Christian wall art, Instant Download.

K-pat, the herd boy, must find a way to end the drought and the suffering of the animals on the plain. This was a great book that really fitted with the rainy weather, to show that some areas really want rain! The stressed syllables there are browse and cows, so the introduction is set apart from the story with this very subtle variation in the meter as well as being set apart from the structure of the main story.

Verna Aardema (1911-2000) was a highly acclaimed storyteller and the author of many books of African folktales.

One of the things I did this summer was think about books I read to my own children when they were little, the ones they loved and wanted to hear over and over. In reading the "About the Tale" in the back of the book, I was a little disappointed that this is not how the original story was told. The illustrations are evocative of African artwork, and unlike many children's books that tell folktales, this one omits the near-obligatory animism and spiritism that permeates tribal cultures.

It uses repetition and rhyme to tell a Kenyan folktale that reflects the culture’s relationship with nature.A traditional tale filled with rhymes and repetitive texts which portrayed the Kapiti plain beautifully.

When a terrible drought hits the beautiful Kapiti Plain and the animals leave, young herd boy Ki-pat must find a way to end the drought and save the wildlife on the plain. Beatriz Vidal's beautiful illustrations provide a charming accompaniment to the story, which would make an ideal story-hour selection. The book is repetitive lie "Old Macdonald's Farm," This book also is being sent to an orphan school in Entebbe Uganda, where the children have to learn English beginning in K.You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. With rhyming lines that repeat many times, this would be a great story to share with a class who could join in with the telling of the story. When I asked her what she was talking about, she again answered "I couldn't read the words, they looked weird.
