This is followed by a jump to the 2006 band rehearsals (not 2007 as the subtitle indicates) and we're left to wonder whether the years 1993-2006 never really happened. A band that almost died in the mid-1970s with the loss of its leader ; it then survived a change of lead singer and style to storm the charts in the 1980s. It doesn't matter here that the sound has a different source – the Roundhouse recording is cult like few other things since we see Anthony Philips on stage and even behind the mic. The management doesn't understand a thing about the dynamics on the internet and the band apparently doesn't care about their fans.

Featuring contributions from key members past and present: Tony Banks, Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett, Mike Rutherford and Anthony Phillips, as well as a wealth of archive performance footage of the band’s biggest tracks and fan favourites, this first authorised study of the band’s history commences with their formation at Charterhouse in 1967 and reunites the band for the first time in many years. First, the 'exciting news' turned out to be a new compilation without any new material – including the solo songs was the only new aspect.Intensely driven, he overcame personal and professional challenges to secure his place amongst the greatest vocalists in history. At least Hugh Padgam was interviewed as part of the coverage of the important development of Collins's legendary drum sound.

Peter Gabriel s departure in 1975 and then Steve Hackett s in 1977 led to the release of the album And Then There Were Three. Internal disputes that used to be mere speculation were revealed beyond doubt and visible for everyone in the documentary. The earlier drummers Chris Stewart and John Silver don't make an appearance – unfortunately, John Mayhew couldn't be interviewed anymore, of course.

The Daily Telegraph's reviewer Ceri Radford described the documentary as "excellent" and "an entertaining riff on their success over the years". The film recounts an extraordinary musical story, exploring the band’s song writing as well as emotional highs and lows and looks into the dynamic between the band members. One could argue, of course, that the average consumer doesn't care about these flaws making it a fun documentary for them. In fact, Sum Of The Parts is a slapdash documentary, showing a distorted picture of the band's history and bluntly revealing the conditions within the band.

Invisible Touch is given far too much time, but the band also seems to be very focused on the success here. The members of Genesis reunite to discuss the band's success and legacy in this musical documentary. Because in the end, absolutely nothing official will be done for the 40th anniversary of The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway, possibly the most ambitious work in Genesis' history. However, hardly anyone had heard anything about her in connection with Genesis prior to Sum Of The Parts. However, it starts with the most current images from the 2007 tour, features a few statements (the misspelling of Daryl Stuermer as 'Steurmer' is already striking) and then takes a step back – to the Charterhouse.

Sum Of The Parts” explores the dynamics of the group that has enabled them to survive changes of line-up, see their musical direction steadily evolve and maintain both group and solo careers along with their enduring popularity as evidenced by their hugely successful 2007 reunion tour. Other important protagonists were left out as well: Armando Gallo, Paul Whitehead, who designed the band's first album covers, John Burns and David Hentschel, who influenced the band's early sound. Current photos of the 'Fab Five' surfaced, there were mysterious hints about 'exciting news' and somehow there was hope that something very exciting was about to happen.
