This conveyor system has a faster rate of fire than a pusher mechanism; despite this, it is known to jam on old, worn darts if there is not enough grip from the belt to drive the dart into the flywheels. We’ve already got one Nerf, with precious few foam darts left, so getting this to try was very well received by my boys, and even my teen had lots of fun with it.

It did manage the claimed 27m range, but with wild inconstency and with no accuracy whatsoever out to that distance. Unlike most flywheel blasters, it uses a conveyor system to feed darts into the flywheels, rather than a pusher mechanism. You'll notice there are various points around to attach a strap - you'd welcome it if you were planning to carry it for any length of time. However, while the inner workings boast some excellent engineering and mechanicals, they let down by a tendency to jam, especially with older, more beaten up darts.

Extend the middle finger of your trigger hand to press the release button, then you can use your other hand to pop out the drum. Baby and infant toys are great, but as your children get older they move on, and if they're anything like my boys then it won't be long before they are drooling at the big kid toys. Some of the technologies we use are necessary for critical functions like security and site integrity, account authentication, security and privacy preferences, internal site usage and maintenance data, and to make the site work correctly for browsing and transactions. The only reason I would tell anyone to not get it, is because I want to keep the advantage on the nerf battle field. I have to admit to getting a very real satisfaction from shooting it myself, as the foam darts went ping, ping, ping against the wall.

So while the Hyperfire’s technical performance is excellent, I found the practicalities let it down. It may be over in only 5 seconds, but watching those 25 darts hit your target makes the refilling worthwhile.Hasbro claims it can manage up to five shots per second on fresh batteries, and has a maximum range of 27m.

The belt has tabs that grip the darts, pulls them from the drum and holds them in place until you are ready to fire. The dart it normally sitting in the barrel poking out slightly so I can grab it or sometimes pop a pen down the barrel to move it out. The ratings/reviews displayed here may not be representative of every listing on this page, or of every review for these listings. On the one hand, they last ages – I’ve had at least half a dozen lengthy NERF wars with my kids without needing to change them – but on the other hand, they’re not the type of batteries you just have lying around in a drawer.
