There's a lot of action, and while that makes for entertaining reading, I started to roll my eyes at the amount of times Jeremiah narrowly escaped death and how many times he was seriously injured.

Family holidays and breaks in the UK - Center Parcs Family holidays and breaks in the UK - Center Parcs

The twist with Naomi threw me for a loop. The whole story was set up such that she liked Jonah - she doesn't like seeing him with Charlotte even though she likes Charlotte, she wears his sweatshirt, she encourages him to break his bones, etc. So I didn't understand why she suddenly went for Jesse. The women in this woven story are so wonderful. Vulnerable and wary, curious and funny, loving and strong. But not that cliched type of strong that's so prevalent and often forced in fiction today. They aren't ~strong female characters~ because they were put through the wringer and made battered and broken for the reader's sake and that's why you're supposed to love them. No, they're strong because that's how they were raised and because of the strong bonds they have with each other. I fell in love with the women of this book. In fact, I think this is the book that has made me feel the most while reading it. So Jonah is trying to strengthen himself, and Naomi is helping him along. No one else knows what he's planning. Author Susan Piver recognizes that when a relationship ends, the anguish and disappointment can be crippling. She lovingly encourages readers to forget the typical advice about staying busy and moving on, and instead, pushes them to take this opportunity to self-transform. Throughout the book, she shares her own story of heartbreak and delivers a strong dose of hope to those who need it most. The Wisdom of a Broken Heart: How to Turn the Pain of a Breakup Into Healing, Insight, and New Love by Susan Piver This is a heart-wrenching, yet deeply satisfying and inspirational memoir on finding meaning and love. Levy spent years traveling the world and telling women’s stories. When she experiences unthinkable heartbreak, she must come to terms with the fact that, like all of us, she lives in a world she cannot control. She shares with readers how she began to live again in the face of uncertainty and in spite of pain.

Chasing boys? Cheering on the home team? Worrying about the perfect prom dress (or if you were even going to make it to prom)? Fighting with your parents because of their crazy restrictive curfews? So I avoid any stating of my age, like, ever, in the hope that if no one says it, no one will know about it and I can stay age- free until the end of time. (My one regret is that I didn’t adopt this attitude when I was twenty-seven, but I knew nothing when I was twenty-seven.)It takes a few moments for her words to sink in. Then, to my great surprise, something stirs in me, something hopeful that, after the last five horrible days, feels like the sweetest relief. In a small recess of my soul a tiny pilot light sparks into life. I know the speech and could do a word-perfect recitation, but closing her down when she’s in full flow is next to impossible. (My siblings and I like to joke that her husband TPB – The Poor Bastard – developed spontaneous mutism shortly after their wedding and that no one has heard him speak for the past twenty-one years. We insist that the last words he’d ever been heard saying – in tones of great doubt – were ‘I do . . . ?’) So despite the whole thing being slightly convenient, it's a great story with tons of action. The pacing is great. Just about the time you think things are going to be fine, they go crazy again. This main character has guts, I'll give him that! The story opens with Stella, shaken and afraid, providing two police officers with the details of a very violent crime that she saw take place through her window in the middle of the night. The officers have different opinions on the information they get from Stella - the older assuming it's just gang violence, and the younger sensing that something more vicious has taken place. What follows is a perfectly crafted account of not only the crime, but everything that surrounds it. Vermette dives into social issues, gang violence, police apathy, racism, alcoholism, spousal abuse, and what it means to live life in a broken system. It's gritty, it's bleak, it's real. Moskowitz is a talented young writer who effectively conveys teenage angst in a confident voice. Jonah purposely breaks his bones as a coping mechanism to his brother Jesse’s severe food allergies. Believing that his bones will heal stronger is his way of controlling the stress of his family, which includes a constantly ill Jesse, a screaming infant brother and feuding parents. But when the people who care about him find out his injuries are self-inflicted, Jonah has to face the repercussions of his destructive behavior.

In a series of shifting narratives, people who are connected, both directly and indirectly, with the victim — police, family, and friends — tell their personal stories leading up to that fateful night. Lou, a social worker, grapples with the departure of her live-in boyfriend. Cheryl, an artist, mourns the premature death of her sister Rain. Paulina, a single mother, struggles to trust her new partner. Phoenix, a homeless teenager, is released from a youth detention centre. Officer Scott, a Métis policeman, feels caught between two worlds as he patrols the city. Through their various perspectives a larger, more comprehensive story about lives of the residents in Winnipeg’s North End is exposed. Parkdean Resorts UK Limited t/a Parkdean Resorts registered in England (Reg. No. 5729719) 2nd Floor, One Gosforth Park Way, Gosforth Business Park, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE12 8ET. A Heartbreaking novel about Manitoban women, families and friendship and what it means to have the support of those around you. You must vacate your lodge by 10am on your departure day and are welcome to stay on village until midnight The start of this book was rather fun... until I realized that the protagonist was a typical Gary Stue. Yup, the kind that succeds at everything, no matter the odds; is better at decision-making than anyone else; so on and so forth.

It's a powerful book and one I'm very glad to have read. My lone peeve, though, was the incessant use of the F-word.🤬 I'm sure the author wanted the dialogue to be a true reflection of the current lexicon, but I found it unnecessarily repetitive. I mean, it was used many hundreds of times— so often it became distracting! And it's just such an ugly, offensive word.😝 I know a reader—and I'm sure there are others—who abandoned the book as its continual use became just too annoying to continue. However, aside from the one minor complaint, I thought The Break was an excellent book, and soon I'll be reading the sequel: ( The Strangers). Overall, I give the book... The story is told in shifting perspectives of connecting characters as they share their past and present stories. This added suspense to the story as I pieced together how the characters were connected to the crime. There is a large cast of characters and at times I needed to use the helpful family tree that is included at the beginning of the book to sort them all out. This double-sided book is structured so that whether you’re the heartbreaker or the heartbroken, you’ll find something within the book to heal the wounds left behind. From break-up themed recipes to short stories, comics to vengeful arts and crafts projects, the book will keep you busy. Made from a collective art project in which thousands of people participated, it is also a reminder that heartbreak, as isolating as it may seem, is a shared experience that connects us all.In this moving poetry collection, Sana Abuleil communicates to readers all the kindness, wisdom, hope, and acceptance she wishes someone had communicated to her when she experienced severe heartache. Sana reminds us that navigating through pain, we find avenues of hope and beauty to embrace. But I'm feeling a misery in the same way I felt it after reading Birdie. We can argue that the women in this book are strong and resilient, but I'm so sorry that they're put to the test at all, and I don't know what I can possibly do to help them, or share the wealth of fortune that's allowed me to land in a life very different from theirs. Some may be offended by the excessively obscene language, but I think it amazingly fits the story so well that it wouldn't be the same without it. This was the book that should have won Canada reads, my apologies to André Alexis, but this was the book that could help to heal Canada. Moskowitz had a really tight hold on the plot for the first three quarters of the book, so it was a shame to see it unravel all over the place like it did at the end.
