The only reason i give this book 4 stars is because there were a couple of celeb’s feminism stories which were a little bit dragged out and digressed as such. The purpose of this book, I think, was to provide a wider-lens picture of feminism, showing women at all different stages of their feminist journeys. After reading this I am filled with an urgent desire to actually go out and do something about these wrongs! Es bringt dich zum Lachen, zum nachdenken und manchmal wunderst du dich nur, dass Andere sich schon die selben Gedanken dazu gemacht haben. The contributors’ answers are as varied and individual as womankind itself, with the book innovatively divided into sections covering Epiphany, Anger, Joy, Poetry Break, Action and Education, followed by helpful Further Reading recommendations and rousing Last Words essays.

Feminists don’t wear pink (and other lies): Amazing women on what the F-word means to them is a selection of thought pieces written by 50 very different women, discussing feminism on their own terms. Reading the words of such powerful feminist activists, ones who push for change everyday through their writing and their art, is as inspiring as it is important. I honestly think this book does such a great job at going fully in depth about feminism and it’s basis. I don't believe 'at home mums' should feel ashamed or like they are somehow lesser women for not having full-blown careers and I don't want to walk around bra-less, wearing tampons as earrings. I say this with sincerest respect (because I see the host means well) but this podcast embodies more signalling of progressivism, intersectionality and inclusivity than it actually has the capacity for challenging and urgent conversations about issues affecting women from all walks of life. And while there was a nice twenty-ish page essay on the history of feminism, it was the very last essay in the book. I don't know if I would actually recommand it for young girls that would want to discover feminism, because I'm not sure whether the book actually gives answer at some point.

But it actually feels more like a book for teenagers, for very young women wanting to know more about that new word they just learned : feminism and not a book for a 30+ woman that has been a feminist since she was 10.As pointed out in the introduction, Feminists Don't Wear Pink isn't an academic collection of feminist essays, but a collection of essays, thoughts, poetry, etc. How do we raise a new generation and secure a prejudice free future, eradicating abuse, inequality and toxic masculinity? I have always been a supporter of equality and have myself been on the receiving end of sexism and misogyny, but with this book my eyes were truly opened. The book was produced in partnership with Girl Up, the UN women's foundation, with 10% of the RRP donated to the charity. Seven hours after your fight with life and death, seven hours after your body breaks open, and bloody, screaming life comes out.

i think this would be a wonderful book to have in school curriculums, to talk and share and discuss from a young age that it means to be a women or seen as feminin and why do many of those aspects are still seen as something negative and to be looked down upon instead of celebrated or at least simply accepted as something that’s okay to have/be. Many of the guests are some of my favourite women - smart, articulate, empathetic - but the host talks over them, asks basic questions, elbows in her own immature, unrefined viewpoint. As a girl I went to a highly academic all-girls school in Oxford and I traversed my teenage years fed up of with feminism. It's true that people do have different experiences and needs under feminism (that's why we have intersectional feminism). It is still the absolute last thing I would recommend to newbie feminists for the main reason that a lot of these women didn't seem to know what feminism is themselves. Another thing this feminist book did great at, which you hardly see in other books, is male representation. She curated the Sunday Times bestselling Feminists Don't Wear Pink and other lies , which won the National Book Award 2018.

For example, feminists (and women in general) do talk to their sons about sexism - perhaps now more than ever. Tapi, dalam tulisan di buku ini, dijelaskan pula, memangnya mengapa sih kok wanita bisa sampai mendapatkan upah yang tidak sama dengan pria. It also gives you wide intel on intersectionality, which is why I find it so painfully significant for young adults to read.I was eager to learn anything new, to hear about things that are generally pushed aside by the media and society as a whole.
