Ein wichtiges Thema des Romans ist ferner die Religion, die aufrichtige Reue und Vergebung, die die gealterte Moll gegen Ende ihres Lebens anstrebt. Furbank and Owens "The Canonisation of Daniel Defoe" (1988); "Defoe De-Attributions" (1994) and "A Critical Bibliography of Daniel Defoe" (1998)

Kim Novak was at the height of her career fame and after filming Strangers When We Meet, The Notorious Landlady, Boys Night Out, Of Human Bondage, Kiss Me Stupid, Kim Novak starred and I mean starred in the film version of Defoe's class "Amorous Adventures of Moll Flanders. Kim Novak -in red hair in this movie- is sensational, sexy, a great star turn in this movie filmed entirely in England. It was supposed to be a riff on "Tom Jones" but instead became a fine film on its own right. Foster's credits include the films The Loneliness of the Long Distance Runner (1962), The System (1964) with Oliver Reed, [2] The Bargee (1964) with Harry H. Corbett, [3] Alfie (1966) with Michael Caine, [4] Half a Sixpence (1967) with Tommy Steele, [5] and Percy (1971) with Hywel Bennett. [6] a b Defoe, Daniel (1722). The fortunes and misfortunes of the famous Moll Flanders, &c. Who was born in Newgate, and during a Life of continu'd Variety for Threescore Years, besides her Childhood, was Twelve Year a Whore, five times a Wife (whereof once to her own Brother) Twelve Year a Thief, Eight Year a Transported Felon in Virginia, at last grew Rich, liv'd Honest, and died a Penitent, Written from her own memorandums. Eighteenth Century Collections Online: W. Chetwood.Well first of all, I like Moll, despite her faults! She is strong and resourceful. She is clear thinking and doesn’t give up. She talks straight. She doesn’t shy away from stating what she has done, at least as she tells the story to us here. Moll’s voice, her personality, comes through loud and clear. Her ability to turn almost any situation into a positive, eventually (Moll Flanders wobbles, but she never falls down!) Did I enjoy this novel? No. In some ways, its story and writing technique are far too rudimentary for a 21st century reader. It certainly didn't grab me the way other books have. But I think if you want to see how the novel got from there to here, you can't pass this by.

I liked the movie so much that I began reading the book that very night, and I finished it 8 days later. Where did the book differ from the movie? It would be easier to state where they resembled each other! I would have been hard-pressed to see any similarity between the two had they been published under different titles. For one thing, the book covers the title character's entire life up past the age of 60, whereas the movie only takes her up to maybe 30, and what goes on in that time frame is widely different from what goes on in the book. Gass, Joshua. "Moll Flanders and the Bastard Birth of Realist Character." New Literary History 45.1 (2014): 111–130. online Defoe emphasizes in his Preface to the novel that the tale is meant to convey a serious moral. But the novel itself, which details its heroine's scandalous sexual and criminal adventures, keeps moralizing (particularly traditional Christian moralizing) to a minimum. Her immoral actions have no real consequences, and the narrative tends to excuse her behavior by referring it to material necessity. If Moll Flanders is surprisingly unmoralizing, Defoe's indulgent attitude toward his heroine accords with the reaction of most readers. E.M. Forster called the book "a masterpiece of characterization," and it is a testimony to the psychological nuance of her character, as well as to its liveliness, that we like Moll more than we censure her. Defoe creates in Moll a character of limitless interest, in spite of her unconcealed ethical shortcomings. His vision is one that values the personal qualities of self-reliance and perseverance, and that dignifies human labor, even when it takes the form of crime. There is the story in a nutshell. Supposedly, it was written by Moll herself. Daniel Defoe’s name never appeared as author on the books until after his death. The tale is said to be based the life of Moll King, whom the author met on visiting Newgate Prison. Moll Flanders [a] is a novel by Daniel Defoe, first published in 1722. It purports to be the true account of the life of the eponymous Moll, detailing her exploits from birth until old age. Thirdly, I felt like I was seeing life, experiencing life, in the 1600s, the life of a woman not of the elite. Moll, seventy years old in 1683, tells us the story of her life. We see life in England and America.
