But Kyungsoo has no idea that the man he’s seeing is Dojin’s older brother’s abusive ex-partner, Chowon! However, the side couples in this series are top tier and the baby Hye-sung and Dojin eventually have IS CUTE AS HELL SO I NEED ALL THE VOLUMES. His world is flipped upside down when he learns that he isn’t a dominating alpha, but a submissive omega instead!

Love Is An Illusion Vol 1 - Goodreads Love Is An Illusion Vol 1 - Goodreads

On top of the main lead being the most unlikable protagonist I have ever read, I’m not even sure he actually likes his rich co-star or he’s just thirsting after the money till the very end. The issue is this all happens within one short chapter, and every step of the way to it reads like sandpaper.

In this Mature-rated romcom, a man who thinks he’s an Alpha finds out that he isn’t…when he gets up close and personal with an Alpha who sees through him. Hyesung is money hungry, and desperately wants to not repeat the life he ran away from without having a strand of maturity in his body. Though he wants nothing more than to be at home with Hye-sung and Byul, he finds himself working more than ever. I really wanted some of the warmth and sweetness of the cover art, and this volume gave me none of that. Some pages are in color - in one odd instance, the artwork switches to color part-way through a page.

When it comes time to tell Dojin’s family exactly why he’s been avoiding them, Hye-sung is in for a stressful introduction! BFFs who lie to you for months, hiding your partner away and trying to force them to leave the country.

But Heesoo does, and he is deeply aware of the danger for the both of them, so he breaks up with Dojun in a scene that reads more painfully than any previous dramatic scene in this manhwa before it. Chowon is a deeply, deeply selfish person, but he regrets Kyungsoo leaving, and Chowon's mental health takes a dive after because he can't reconcile with that. It'd be nice to know more about why Hye-sung has spent his entire life hiding that he's actually really good at math, and I am morbidly curious about Dojin's stiffly awkward family. This obviously does not appeal to everyone and I would never say to someone who doesn't like this content that they are wrong for not doing so. The art style is so cute and I love the comedic effect it brings but the flow of the story just irritates me.

To be fair, he gave Hye-sung meds to suppress his heat cycle (they didn't work), but who shoves their fingers up some random stranger's butt? Hyesung vivió toda su vida creyendo que era un alpha hasta que se encontró en una fiesta con un alpha de alta sociedad llamado Dojin que le hizo descubrir que era un omega. They commit to each other with dialogue that sounds like a couple about ready to go through a divorce and I grew tired and frustrated by it when the other couples are contained within the same story. At the end of the day, this is a kind of story that someone reads by the dozen, like a bag of chips, what you'll find if you look up BL on most manhwa sites, or that people read for wish fufillment and I think that's fine, but it doesn't do anything outstanding with what it has, nor does it stand out from what came before it as I have had it recommended to me. It follows the same; Kyungsoo tries, and wants to try, and Chowon has his character arc moment of learning to change and it wraps up their arc with Chowon apologising to Hye-sung and Byul and the indication that it is possible for Chowon to move on from Dojun.

Love is an Illusion! Vol. 1 - Booktopia Love is an Illusion! Vol. 1 - Booktopia

Kyungsoo is probably the nicest person in this manhwa, if a bit thickheaded and likens Alpha and Omega like animals, and Chowon by circumstance keeps coming back into his life so he tries, and falls in love. It is a deeply k-drama-esque, dramatic BL scene and it lands where it was, because they still love each other, but they live in a society that doesn't see them favourably. He showed signs that he probably have dominant alleles because he is sensitive to pheromones similar to Dojin. Chowon hasn't let go of Dojun, even after their divorce, and wants to get back together despite Dojun having no interest, and Chowon can't let go of Dojin so he falls back into how he was two years ago by hiring thugs only instead of intimidatingly any Omega who comes near Dojun, he begins stalking Heesoo.Attending a friend's party he would later contemplate this as a bad choice because Omegas were also invited to that party. But I encourage people to recognize that not every piece of medium has to be wholesome and healthy to be enjoyable, and that many people can distinguish fiction from reality and would be the first people to intervene should they see a dynamic like that in real life. Mental health in Korea is heavily stigmatised, and you even see it framed in this comic as you learn Chowon, Hye-sung, and Heesoo's story to a mild degree, with how he deals with the world. Maybe they eventually turn into that, I don't know, but their relationship in this first volume is nothing but rape and resentment.
