When the same thing happened at another event soon after, with Burrow unable to say words with an ‘s’ in them, like ‘solicitor’ and ‘necessity’, he knew something was amiss. I did say last year that the Ultra 7 in 7 would complete the trilogy but there was always that caveat that Rocky 4 was my favourite Rocky film,” said Sinfield.

And here again, another insight into Kevin Sinfield: that he believes physical sacrifice is the basis for success in team sports, that players have to go that bit further than the opposition are willing to. The story of his life, him growing up, him finding his love for rugby and his colleagues especially Rob is inspiring. Both played together for the dominant Leeds Rhino rugby league team in the first 15 years or so of this century. We know the human body can adapt remarkably to physical stress but these runs were gobsmacking distances, bonkers challenges to normal folk.In November 2017, Doddie and his trustees launched the registered charity, My Name’5 Doddie Foundation. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. For the MND community, every second counts and we will be making the most of every step on this challenge to raise awareness, funds and support for that community.

Sinfield became the first rugby league player to be nominated for the BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award, finishing in second place behind Andy Murray in 2015. This will enable the MND Association to continue its work across the country, which crucially includes supporting local groups and directly helping families who are dealing with the day to day realities of MND. Irish MND Association which provides essential care and support for people with MND, their families and carers. About the Author: Born in Oldham and known affectionately as 'Sir Kev', Kevin Sinfield retired in 2016 as an idol of the Leeds Rhinos' golden years and as a former England captain. But in recent years has shown heroism of a very different kind through his selfless and extraordinary fundraising for motor neurone disease (MND), the terminal illness that has affected his best mate and former teammate Rob Burrow. He was to become a league legend: 521 games for Leeds Rhinos, a 13-year England career, 14 Great Britain caps, seven Grand Final wins, appearance and scoring records galore, runner-up to Andy Murray in the BBC Sports Personality of the Year awards, even the first RL player to appear on Desert Island Discs, when he chose a self-propelled treadmill as his luxury item. Thank you for supporting us; together we can make a difference to the lives of people with motor neurone disease. drove from his home in the borough of Oldham to Leicester, did a day’s work, drove home and ran 61km as preparation for his next challenge, finishing at 10. As the charity of Leeds Teaching Hospitals, we provide support for eight areas which include Leeds General Infirmary, Leeds Children’s Hospital, Leeds Cancer Centre, St James’s University Hospital, Chapel Allerton Hospital, Seacroft Hospital, Wharfdale Hospital and Leeds Dental Institute.

We’re doing this for the 5500 people living with MND in the UK and Republic of Ireland right now and every penny you can donate will make a huge difference. The main beneficiaries will be the MND Association and Leeds Hospitals Charity’s appeal to build the Rob Burrow Centre for MND in Leeds, while My Name’5 Doddie Foundation, the Irish MND Association and the Darby Rimmer MND Foundation will also benefit. In 2021, Sinfield followed the 7 in 7 with The Extra Mile – 101 miles in 24 hours, Leicester to Leeds.

Kevin meets some of the people with MND he has helped and inspired along the way and speaks openly about his motivation and how he’s changed as a person. He was awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday honours for his efforts, along with the Freedom of Leeds and a special BBC Award for his fundraising. Union followers not familiar with Sinfield’s league career will learn plenty from his recently released autobiography, The Extra Mile, published by Century.

It’s a must read, inspiring, thought provoking and overall a top read about a man’s career that has trod so many different paths. I’m running the Rob Burrow Leeds Marathon in May 2024 (my first marathon), so it was Kevin’s fundraising challenges, and his MND charity work, as well as his magnificent friendship with Rob that I was most interested in reading about. On day 2, we will be running in Cardiff, on day 3 in Birmingham, then Edinburgh, Dublin, Brighton and finishing on day 7 in London. Kevin puts team first both in his rugby days and more recently as he has gathered some trusted people to help him help Rob Burrows. Our previous challenges have shown how much this country cares and we hope you can support us once again. Please Note: By their very nature, all signed books will have been handled several times before they get to you.
