Kyle Mills continues year after year to prove that he was the perfect choice to continue the Mitch Rapp series after the death of the great Vince Flynn. Mitch Rapp, the love child of late author Vince Flynn, has been fighting for the Red, White, and Blue in 19 heart-pounding adventures since 1999. Moviegoers might recognize him best as 2017’s The American Assassin (played by Dylan O’Brien). Within the first chapter I was hooked and ended up reading 85% of the novel in one sitting. The only reason I didn't finish it in one bite - I had to work the next day and get up early! (Thanks Kyle for keeping me up late! lol)

CIA’s director Kennedy gets the information about evidence of a mole scouring the Agency’s database for sensitive information on Nicholas Ward, the first trillionaire. Rapp has to protect him. But this time Rapp’s job is as difficult as he has to protect Ward and use him as bait to find the face of a traitor who is passing valuable government information. Fun Fact: Kyle Mills initially found inspiration from his father who was the former director of Interpol. Setting David Chism aside for a moment, Gideon Auma is the leader of a terrorist organization that’s allied with Islamic extrem—”It is a Mitch Rapp novel, so you expect action. Enemy At The Gates does not disappoint. There are multiple action scenes including an assault that features the defenders using a water cannon (I won’t spoil the scene by telling you more). Where Mr. Mills outdid himself was the way he made scenes without action have the same tension and draw as the action scenes do. This was especially true near the end of the book. Rapp and his team embark on a desperate search for the only people who know how to repair the damage—the ones responsible. But his operating environment is like nothing he’s experienced before. Computers and communication networks are down, fuel can no longer be pumped from gas stations, water and sanitation systems are on the brink of collapse, and the supply of food is running out. I came into writing from kind of a strange angle. When I graduated from college in the late eighties, I had the same dream as everyone else at the time—a corporate job, a nice car, and a house with lots of square footage. Mike Nash– Mike Nash is a friend and former partner of Mitch’s whom Mitch mentored and helped get a desk job at the CIA.

After college he went to work for Kraft General Foods where he was an account and sales marketing specialist. In 1990 he left Kraft to accept an aviation candidate slot with the United States Marine Corps. One week before leaving for Officers Candidate School, he was medically disqualified from the Marine Aviation Program, due to several concussions and convulsive seizures he suffered growing up. While trying to obtain a medical waiver for his condition, he started thinking about writing a book. This was a very unusual choice for Flynn since he had been diagnosed with dyslexia in grade school and had struggled with reading and writing all his life.First, there’s no question that we need to send a team to Uganda to try to find Chism. We know how Ward feels about us but to date he hasn’t gotten too deeply involved in politics. We don’t need him rethinking that and staking out a position against your administration. I think we both agree there’s no chance of turning him into an ally, but if we do him this favor, we might be able to neutralize him as an enemy.” Meanwhile, when Kennedy discovers evidence of a mole scouring the Agency’s database for sensitive information on Nicholas Ward, the world’s first trillionaire, she convinces Rapp to take a job protecting him. In doing so, he finds himself walking an impossible tightrope: Keep the man alive, but also use him as bait to uncover a traitor who has seemingly unlimited access to government secrets. Mitch Rapp has worked for several presidents over his career, but Anthony Cook is unlike any he’s encountered before. Cunning and autocratic, he feels no loyalty to America’s institutions and is distrustful of the influence Rapp and CIA director Irene Kennedy have in Washington.

From behind, the man sitting on one of the sofas looked very much like everyone else in Washington—blue suit, nice posture, expensive haircut with a little gray at the temples. But when he put down his coffee cup and stood, he proved to be much more than one of the political operatives that infested the beltway. She nodded. “There’s opportunity here for us. The question is do we want to exploit it. So far, we’ve been fairly conservative in our actions. But we’re only three and a half years from the next election. At some point, we’re going to have to move forward.” Irene Kennedy – Irene Kennedy (introduced in Transfer of Power as Director of the Counter-terrorism Center) is Mitch Rapp’s recruiter, friend, and staunch supporter. She is the Director of the CIA. The latest addition to Mitch Rapp’s novel series is the Enemy of the Gates, a wonderful novel. The book is written by a great novelist, Kyle Mills after Vince’s demise.
