Yesterday a parent came over to tell me how impressed she was by the book fair and that you did a fabulous job of selling the books to the children first. I love how these cats look and especially how they are subtely visible in the background of some earlier pages which kids might enjoy trying to spot. In just a few words, he gives us suspense, humour and memorable characters that are taken to heart immediately. You guys were so fab and Dawn was such a lovely presence in the schools - I will absolutely be in touch next time I'm in your neck of the woods.

But to keep ourselves on our toes, we have a rule that author gender is alternated, girl-boy-girl-boy, and the continents always rotated (with occasional glitches). You guys are such a force for good and I am a passionate supporter of Indie booksellers, so I'm so happy this worked out well (I'd love to know how many books were sold if you have it to hand - it felt like quite a lot! For their first exhibition they asked 18 artists to each design a rug for the Design Museum in London. The way to best do that it seemed to me was by introducing the tigers to the audience at the start and show more and more signs of them getting closer whilst the monkeys are unaware. You can change your choices at any time by visiting Cookie preferences, as described in the Cookie notice. Unfortunately I was finishing this off during the first covid lockdown and so I only managed to do this a handful of times with this book long before the pandemic.

I am quite please with the one I eventually settled on: “For the things we have to learn before we can do, we learn by doing” - Aristotle. But while waiting in the tree the three monkeys get hungry and they decide that maybe it’s okay to just look at the mangos. Your selection was perfect for our children and what really made the difference was your ability to engage with each child, discuss their interests and help them to choose a suitable book based on your extensive knowledge of the books you were selling. The illustrations are all so engaging and simple and there’s even one special one whick I really love which requires you to turn the book on its side to view it properly! This involving, laugh-out-loud tale of monkeys who don’t do as they are told features funny faces, intense colour and a lesson about risk. With rare exceptions such as bank holidays, the book group meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 7. I love Haughton’s use of colour in this book, the monkeys are a contrast to the bright reddish world of their jungle and I love how you can see the expression on their faces which are especially funny when they are wondering if maybe something will be okay. In this story, it is the opposite, big monkey asks the little monkeys to stay away from danger but the lure of danger proves too difficult to resist. The story is so fun and simple but is filled with some great repetition which kids will enjoy and although the story isn’t too complex it still carries and teaches an important lesson about the importance of listening to warnings and also that danger can sometimes be lurking even when you think it is safe. Yourself and Bob are much cherished in our booky world and I personally really appreciate everything that you do.

Rosalind Fair is a local Co Antrim artist who does individual commissions as well as this original range of cards, all based on her own watercolours. One funny thing is I came up with this story soon after ‘Don’t Worry, Little Crab’ and I later I realised the two stories are almost mirror opposites to each other in a number of ways. Bronnie is so lovely with the boys and we also felt that having a man enthusing about the books set a great example. They would also only drop off a case of books and leave us to run it – it was so lovely to have you on hand to chat to the children and recommend them books, as well as the small (but appreciated! A must-have for every forward-thinking person who wants the next generation to inherit a world to be proud of.

As well as the famed images of The Giants Causeway and The Dark Hedges, she also has a number of local coastline and inland landscapes such as Slemish, Cushendun, Ballycastle and Ballintoy. Your words, like your reviews, bring books to life and give them a voice before the front cover is even turned. We Have a Plan , won the Specsavers Irish Children's Book of the Year Junior Award 2014 as well as the Ezra Jack Keats New Illustrator Award in the US. Three little monkeys are sitting in a tree while their parent tells them to stay where they are, to not go near the mangoes because there are tigers about. Each card is blank for your own message, and contains a small paragraph on the reverse with Daniel's creative thinking behind the image. The title to be read and discussed is sign-posted and on sale for the whole of the previous month (with a discount for those who make it known they intend to come) and everybody is welcome, whether first-timer, part-timer or regular-timer. We use Google Analytics to see what pages are most visited, and where in the world visitors are visiting from. It was such a pleasure to meet you both, and I really appreciated how smoothly and professionally you ran everything. But maybe the monkeys should be more careful, because maybe there are tigers about after all…The hardback book is filled with thick matt pages of really colourful illustrations and text.
