Description

And for those who rely on the media and thereby consider themselves well-informed, this book may be an eye-opener. Se centra especialmente en los incidentes en los que los políticos de todo el mundo han abusado de las tragedias personales para promover sus intereses personales. The most powerful section, for me is where we look at the controversial topic of Human Rights which is the subject of outrageously inaccurate reporting. The first thing to note is that should you get arrested you should never, ever agree to take a polygraph test. Listened to this as an audiobook, which was brilliantly narrated by Jack Hawkins - would absolutely recommend it as a listen.

This disturbing new phenomenon, akin to fake news, involves the media and politicians seeking to distort the truth about our legal system and how it impacts our freedoms.A system of human rights which pleases those who rule over us is not a system of human rights at all; it is a system of unchecked executive power. However, the writing is set out clearly with the lay reader, not the legally educated, in mind and all of the principles are set out in a basic fashion using simple language and illustrated with easy to digest examples and comparators.

Or else the chapters probably would’ve made decent blog posts, whereas they don’t necessarily work as a cohesive book. The Secret Barrister supports his/her argument with examples from several different areas of law including Civil Compensation, Human Rights Law and Criminal Justice. This book should be compulsory reading before anyone is allowed to read, watch or listen to any media coverage of legal proceedings. You will understand modern Britain more thoroughly and be able to cut through the chaff of day to day news stories to find what really happened. There's a lot of really interesting cases covered in this book, and while I would have enjoyed some more personal anecdotes here and there, examining some of the big headlines of today was a fantastic approach. It should go without saying that human rights are important, but what happens when human rights law goes too far?
