Like, from the synopsis you know Silas is going to kill himself, but that didn’t happen until like 35% in. Along with that, Chapman raises some GREAT points about ghost stories and folklore and how they have, in many ways, been whitewashed and in some ways romanticized.

It's not really outright scary, but it absolutely is horrific - just imagine if ghosts could lick you, and you'll have an idea of just how uncomfortable some of this was to read. But Silas is unable to manage on his own and just as Erin is finally moving on from him, Silas dies from an overdose and Erin’s life is completely changed. Whenever he needs her she is there, even though his drug addiction is causing her and their friends pain. McLeod Chapman has instantly become my new “author to watch” and I have immediately TBR’ed all of his past horror novels (with a close eye on anything new he releases). McLeod Chapman's writing is impeccable throughout and conjures up many a trippy, nightmarish and atmospheric scene.Not gonna lie, at some parts I was a bit confused as to what the hell was going on, but that could be a me problem. As I was reading this book I kept thinking of “Ghostland” by Colin Dickey, which has this as a running theme, and LO AND BEHOLD this book was mentioned in the acknowledgements. Not to be outdone by their beautiful face; GHOSTEATER's original music as well as mixing comes first and foremost.
