Again, it ends up being disappointingly brief compared to other excerpts from these recordings, but it's still a fun listen. Each time you see it, another piece of the jigsaw falls into place - though you may find that the jigsaw makes a picture a little more abstract than you expected.

Thankfully this only applies to the one scene, where Nikki is on the phone and the disembodied Phantom is speaking to her. On High in Blue Tomorrows" entpuppt sich dabei als Remake des tragisch durch den Tod der Hauptdarsteller gescheiterten "4-7" (3).Established in January 2011, Welcome to Twin Peaks is an independent Twin Peaks and David Lynch community aiming to keep the fandom fire burning one (b)log at a time. The film - shot entirely digitally - features some of Lynch's most infamously terrifying shots (you know the one we're talking about), and takes the director's experimentalism and surrealism to the extreme. Yet, while it may not hit the heights of some of his previous work, Inland Empire remains a riveting and unnerving film from one of American cinema’s true auteurs; and if it ultimately remains the director’s final feature, it can still stand proud as a testament to a unique and singular cinematic talent. As an actress delves ever deeper into her work for a high-profile filmmaker, her personality becomes increasingly fragmented while her world starts turning nightmarish and surreal. This of course prohibits "understanding" of the movie, since it is one of few instances in the film that are meant to be understood, as parallel lines are spoken in a mocking tone by Dern late in the film: Where am I?

Inland Empire (2006) is a complex Hollywood nightmare, blurring the lines between fantasy and reality. Beginning with the labyrinthine nightmare of Inland Empire and journeying back to the descending mysteries of Lost Highway and the haunting black and white images of Eraserhead. Having built his career as both an actor and director of silent cinema with comedic short films starring his wildly popular Little Tramp character, Charles Chaplin confounded audiences when he followed up his first feature, The Kid, with a serious melodrama—sans the Tramp! Maybe it's better than the original DVD (I no longer have a copy to compare), but it's not a 4K movie. Personally I enjoy these movies in much the same way as I might enjoy the lyrics to a Bob Dylan song, or looking at an abstract painting: you may not be sure you quite 'get' it, but it can still be an interesting and enjoyable experience.

Criterion then ports over from the previous DVD 75 minutes’ worth of deleted scenes, entitled More Things That Happened.Though the source materials limit how well this will look on Blu-ray, no matter what sort of upscaling process it has gone through, this new presentation still provides a notable improvement over the previous DVD edition. Aping Lynch’s visual style and elliptical cuts (somewhat pretentiously I’m afraid) this is nevertheless a really interesting watch. Over its three-hour runtime, we undertake an odyssey where Laura Dern’s character Nikki Grace lands a role in the feature film “On High in Blue Tomorrows” only to learn that it could very well be a cursed production. that we are all taught to aspire to; with the trappings of success, fame, beauty and fortune - everything you would expect to make a human happy.

When she finds herself falling for her co-star, she realises her life is starting to mimic the fictional film they're shooting. Allerdings in der Darbietung der von Breton angemahnten absoluten Realität als Bindeglied zwischen Unterbewusstsein und Bewusstsein nähert sich Inland Empire dieser wohl nebst Eraserhead am stärksten. There's more of that to be found in what amounts to be “outtakes” from this documentary, 30 minutes worth of behind-the-scenes footage entitled Lynch2, which was also included on the previous North American DVD. On the plus side, it's good for UK fans to finally get a copy of the "more things that happened" scenes, which I personally love.
