addresses the topic of homosexuality—or as Allberry prefers, “same-sex attraction”—in the Christian context. A complimentary review copy was provided to me by Cross Focused Reviews (A Service of Cross Focused Media, LLC). There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God. It looks like there’s a whole series that this book is part of (questions Christians ask), so will probably check out the others too!

Explores the topic of homosexuality based on scripture, the gospel, and his own personal experience and full of truth and grace. A variety of surveys of evangelicals, however, reveal that the large majority do not practice what they say they believe.

The introduction, conclusion, and various other autobiographical anecdotes within the book provide a glimpse into the soul of a godly gospel minister for whom homosexuality is a deeply personal issue. In this short, simple book, Sam Allberry wants to help confused Christians understand what God has said about these questions in the scriptures, and offers a positive and liberating way forward through the debate. Allberry has written a fantastic resource that will unite the body of Christ as we seek to love both God’s commands and designs but also his creation— his image-bearers. Most importantly, though, this book also reflects Sam’s conviction that God’s word is ‘deeply and profoundly good’ (p.

You could easily hand it to a Christian struggling with same-sex attraction—or a church struggling with how to help its members bear that particular temptation. The brevity of Allberry’s primer does not lend itself to being strong in nuance, but I truly appreciated his chapter on discussing same sex attraction within the Christian Church. Allberry’s examination of homosexuality can be described as gospel-centered because the gospel is always a third-party dialogue partner in his discussion.

Here at last is a concise book written with sensitivity and insight by a Christian who is himself gay.isn’t an exhaustive, comprehensive guide to every question anyone might ever have on Christianity and homosexuality. I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly,” (John 10:10) and instead projected, “Let them deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me,” (Mark 8:34) on those like him. I really struggle with the way LGBT people are preached about in churches, and I was worried this book would follow a similar vein of confusion, poor communication and a wistful longing for days gone by - when gay people weren't out and you could still slap your secretary on the bum without ramifications. This was a book of splendid and biblical answers to many questions that Christians living in the current century are asking. I picked this up as extra reading for my Ethics A Level and would definitely recommend it for those doing the OCR Religious Studies A Level course.

A church leader who teaches that even certain kinds of homosexual activity are OK is actually sending people to destruction. Homosexual lifestyles are becoming more common place, and Christians need to know how to say more than, “That’s sin. In a recent book by David Kinnaman and Gabe Lyons titled unChristian, they claim that as many as 80 percent of young people (ages 16 to 29) within the church use “anti-homosexual” to describe Christianity. In explaining the biblical view of God's design for human sexuality, he explains the biblical condemnations of homosexual practice and refutes those who would propose a revisionist perspective of those passages or dismiss them altogether. I'm not gay but I'm also not a huge jerk, so I've struggled a lot with these kinds of resources in the past. There is no compromise on truth or faith - no soft way out, but there is a positive, compassionate analysis of what is right and wrong. He challenges the current culture narrative and shows that the gospel is good news for everyone, whatever their sexual orientation. In almost every case, the NIV and ESV render the key words and phrases of Allberry’s quotes in substantively different ways. Having resoundingly said ‘no’, to his title question, Allberry rolls off into discussion of the ground of the topic at hand, by looking at what the bible says about sex and marriage. This book can encourage them to hold their ground and live out their beliefs despite cultural pressure, and provides wise encouragement from a seasoned believer who has dealt with similar struggles.
