Already my mind is crawling over what I can remember – and scrabbling for what I cannot – and I pray to God that I’m not responsible for this in some way, that there wasn’t something I could have done to prevent it. Since the last two recommendations had been a disappointment, I have to say that my expectations were not high for this book.

The more you learn about Emily as a child, and as an adult too, the stronger your disdain for her becomes. Surely 16 years is a long time so Emily and Jess reconcile their differences and become sisters once again.I try my best to answer them all, but I’m sure I must come across as guilty in some way, because I can’t quite seize all the details, and even in my confused state I can see how some of the gaps seem oddly placed. Fortunately Jonah’s domestic partner Michelle picks that moment to show up so he can pass care of their child onto her as he focuses his attention on the girl. Fans of In the Dark by Cara Hunter, The Girl Before by JP Delaney, The Last Thing She Told Me by Linda Green, Her Name Was Rose by Claire Allan, The Innocent Wife by Amy Lloyd, Our Little Lies by Sue Watson and Behind Closed Doors by BA Paris will love this. Jonah is sure Keely knows where her sister is—but before she tells him anything, she insists, he has to listen to her story from the beginning. And then, as I went to lift you up, I heard the sound of tyres on the gravel outside and the room grew instantly brighter, briefly bathing you in light, and in the seconds before the lights dipped I saw your closed eyes and the blood on your sleep suit – fresh blood, bright and wet.

Jonah finds himself torn between giving his best to this case and his job and doing his best to care for his family. The writing is excellent, the reader is entrapped by the story immedicately and I fouund I simply couldn't put it down.
