As in the previous films, our reluctant antihero has already given up hope of a new civilization, a lone scavenger driven purely by survival, and Hardy does a marvelous job stepping into the role that made Mel Gibson a worldwide star. Digitally there are no compression issues and the original source is clean and clear; grain is fine and maintains a filmic glow. Mad Max Fury Road remains one of the best Dolby Atmos tracks to date, a visceral, impactful, aural assault that is utterly engaging and room shakingly proficient. The best thing is that the box contains Finnish texts and a pleasant surprise also that The Madness of Max documentary contains Finnish texts and other Nordic countries. Mad Max 2 also known as The Road Warrior is arguably the best of the series however, I should point out that the film stopped playing at 53 minutes.

Achieving 98% of the DCI-P3 color gamut, the picture quality is astounding when the Full Array Local Dimming (FALD) feature is activated. You can hear the shifting of gears up in the front of the room, only to hear a bullet plink off the back of the truck from the left year, or the pop of a tire over your right shoulder. While the greens in leaves and grass enjoy a more natural, shamrock shade, the reds throughout are fuller and richly saturated, ranging from the cherry ruby of blood to the dramatic candy rose of some vehicles.Whites, in particular, are sparkling and gleam with incredible intensity without the slightest hint of blooming, making individual beads of sweat on the faces of actors sparkle and giving the shiny, chrome edges of vehicles a luminous shine. There are some decent enough effects, vehicles, gun shots and crashes etc that have good separation. This is the entry that really inspired all the copycats over the years with the hilariously over the top outfits and campy villains all looking like they’ve walked off a Frankie Goes to Hollywood music video. Made with a very limited budget, by an enthusiastic team, Mad Max has been a worldwide phenomenon since 1979. Overall, Mad Max is a classic film with Mel Gibson at his best and an unnerving atmosphere throughout where violence could (and usually does) occur at any second.

In his third go-round as the title hero Gibson takes on the barbarians of the post-nuclear future – and this time becomes the saviour of a tribe of lost children. doesn’t fare quite so well, it is well detailed, the colouring and depth are good, but misses out on the wow of 4K by being a tad flat, while the Dolby Atmos track makes good use of the height channels and is a nice immersive experience, even if bass is a touch light. However, seeing as how the transfer comes from a lower resolution source, the 4K presentation also suffers from a few visible artifacts worth mentioning, most notably more than a few instances of mosquito noise that can be easily seen in the blue sky. It is still a significant improvement and will be a better viewing experience, but with this new format, we are looking for more than just sharpness and resolution.

It seems as though the rears are continuously active although, of course, during the softer, intimate conversations, they don't exactly play a significant role. It's a war that must be seen to be believed, a road-scorching, neo-punk, take-no-prisoners combat set in a postapocalyptic Australia.

The native 4K image on Mad Max The Road Warrior is a huge improvement, very well detailed, bright, vivid colouring, almost ‘hot’, and strong blacks, while the Dolby Atmos track is immersive, detailed with good effects and strong bass. Dialogue is natural sounding and whilst held to the frontal array is given the odd moment of directionality but unfortunately is occasionally a bit low in the mix. Mad Max' (1979), set sometime after an apocalyptic war, depicts a world in which the police have their hands full fighting roving motorcycle gangs. Essentially a remake of the climax of the second film, Fury Road, is one of the finest action films ever made. All in all, this was a fledgling 4K UHD attempt with “solid” HDR application, and not much else to differentiate itself from the Blu-ray. Vernon Wells as Wez is maybe my favourite villain of the franchise as he is just so unhinged that he makes you feel constantly on edge any time he is on screen. Compared to other UHD releases thus far, one can almost imagine Immortan Joe yelling out, "Mediocre!

After the escape of his second hand woman, Furiosa (Charlize Theron), with his favorite breeding wives, Immortan Joe sets off on a deadly road chase to get his women back and exact revenge on Furiosa. For a more in-depth take on the film, check out our review of the 2015 Scream Factory Blu-ray and of the trilogy box set edition from Warner Bros.Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome whilst a step up from the Blu-ray in terms of image quality, in comparison to the rest of the discs in this set it is slightly lacking. I haven’t watched the 4K UHD disc before as I got to review the Blu-ray only back in 2016, but I remember it not getting high marks for video back then. This makes him less sympathetic for the first half (especially the way he treats Bruce Spence’s The Gyro Captain) but it makes him feel like a more believable character especially after seeing how selfish people have behaved over the past few years.
