About this deal

I read the book as I had read odd chapters at bedtime with my daughter but couldn’t quite get the story so told her that I would read it when she had finished it. I’m good for my word! This follows on from the success of Grandpa’s Great Escape, Awful Auntie, Demon Dentist, Ratburger and Gangsta Granny. All went straight to Children’s number one on release with Gangsta Granny and Billionaire Boy selling over a million copies to date. I actually think David Walliams is better than Roald Dahl. I know, I know. Roald Dahl is amazing, legend, one of a kind but David's books are genuinely good, kind, honest and most importantly wise. I will be always grateful for that. Raj – From Demon Dentist, Grandpa’s Great Escape, Ratburger, Gansgta Granny, Billionaire Boy, Mr Stink and The Boy in the Dress Lovable newsagent and fan-favourite Raj appears in (nearly) all of the David Walliams novels. Described as being “like the funny uncle you always wished you had” – but even better, he sells sweets – Raj is neither teacher nor parent, so he can give the young characters his honest advice along with a dubious bargain or two, such as discounts on half-eaten sweets.

David has proved himself as a dramatic actor in BBC2's 'Capturing Mary' with Dame Maggie Smith, in BBC1's Agatha Christie series 'Partners In Crime', as Frankie Howerd in the biopic ‘Rather You Than Me’ for BBC4, and on the stage in Harold Pinter’s 'No Man’s Land' starring alongside Sir Michael Gambon. He received the Comedy Award at the Evening Standard Theatre Awards for his performance as Bottom in ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ directed by Michael Grandage. Take a Look at Our Summary of November Highlights, Whether You're Looking for the Latest Releases or Gift InspirationBy 'confused' I mean that readers may wonder if they are in fact reading Walliams, as well as being a little confused as the story progresses. There is nothing amiss about a writer branching out, sampling new genres and moving outside their comfort zone (comedic writing is clearly a genre Walliams can write almost in his sleep). There is a lot to like about this book. It’s different and the concept is very topical - a dystopian vision of the future with greedy, despotic types in control of the country. And I thought that the story followed some interesting twists and turns. This show was the one that set up the television career of author David and made him popular. He made his writing debut with the children’s novel titled ‘The Boy in the Dress’. This book opened to the extreme popularity and acclaim after its publication in the year 2008. Since then, author David has developed a reputation for himself as a successor of Roald Dahl. Since the year 2012, author David has been working as a judge on the talent show called Britain’s Got Talent on ITV. Other than that, he has also written a played an important role in a couple of seasons of the BBC One show called Big School. In this television series, he has played the character of a chemistry teacher named Keith Church. In the year 2015, author David starred in the BBC series called Partners in Crime and played the role of Tommy Beresford. Well, this is my first David Walliams book and as I am aged 44, I suspect I am not really his target demographic. Added to all this, David’s books have achieved unprecedented critical acclaim: Awful Auntie, Ratburger and Demon Dentist won the National Book Awards Children’s Book of the Year and in France David was awarded the popular Tamtam for Mr Stink and the prestigious Le Prix Du Livre De La Jeunesse for Ratburger, so it comes as no surprise that countless broadsheet reviewers have compared David to his all-time hero, Roald Dahl. As an adult, I didn't particularly enjoy this, but listening as someone who needs to be aware of children's tastes and trends, I can't see this making waves as Walliams' comic efforts have done. While Alfie of course becomes a braver hero than he starts out as, it's a genre (or mix of) that is better suited to the adolescent who can deal with the more mature themes more comfortably. There is a lot here that will puzzle and put off.

David Walliams Press Reviews

Soon, someone comes into his life, who appreciates Joe for being himself and not because of his money. But still a problem exists as Joe is about to learn that as soon as money gets involved, nothing remains as it used to be. Joe has always heard his elders, saying that the best things in life always come for free, but if he does care about them, he is definitely going to all of them. Dystopian Fiction Books Everyone Should Read: Explore The Darker Side of Possible Worlds and Alternative Futures David's books have now exceeded 100 non-consecutive weeks in the children's number-one spot, and have been translated into 53 languages, selling more than 24 million copies worldwide. On many occasions, the literary style of author David has been compared with the likes of Roald Dahl. David was born in London to Peter Williams and Kathleen. His father was a transportation engineer in London while his mother used to work as a lab technician. All in all, this was such great fun and I'm very much looking forward to reading more of David Walliams' books.

The previous novel proved to be extremely hilarious and was followed by another stunning and hilarious novel written by author David Walliams, titled as ‘Gangsta Granny’. This novel was published by the Children’s Books section of the Harper Collins publishers in the year 2011. I didn't like the Audible version very much, the music used as bookends to chapters was annoying, a little 80s computer-sounding, and I think I'd have preferred to read an illustrated paper copy. I did find myself tuning out a few times, which I try very hard not to do. After joining the actors’ union Equity, he changed his name from Williams to Walliams because there was already a person with the name David Williams in the union. One of the earliest novels written by author David Walliams was titled as ‘Billionaire Boy’. As these two novels were very much successful, much more was expected from author David with the novel, Billionaire Boy. The central plot of the book revolves around a boy named Joe, who seems to have a number of reasons to be extremely happy in his life. His most recent fiction title, The World’s Worst Children, published on 19th May 2016 sold over 340,000 copies in the UK alone. It went straight to No. 1 on release where it stayed for 4 weeks and also concurred Children’s Books charts, where it stayed at No.1 for 7 weeks. Internationally sales continue to thrive, The World’s Worst Children also went straight to No. 1 in the Australian children’s chart and remained there for three consecutive weeks and reached the No. 1 in the overall book chart in New Zealand. As well as being a No.1 best-selling Children’s author, David Walliams is one of Britain's most popular writers and comic actors. This was such a cute story and I loved the messages in this. They included trying to normalise people's differences, promoting that we all look different and that's a marvelous thing!
