Description

A passive regeneration occurs when the vehicle exhaust system has reached a particular temperature after a sustained period of driving at specific speeds. Generally, this occurs when driving on a motorway at speeds of around 50-70mph for more than 30 minutes. Additives from reputable companies will normally do exactly what they say on the tin. They can’t fix mechanical faults, but can solve problems caused by deposits and contamination helping restore performance and efficiency. There are also products to help a tired engine through their final months and even extend their life, or products to get you out of trouble such as stopping leaks. No miracles, just honest technology that works. ‘Worth a try’ is something we often hear from converted sceptics. So do additives and in particular DPF cleaning additives work? Yes absolutely, but they can’t perform miracles. Stalling– Depending on the severity of the issues with the EGR valve, your car may not be able to maintain it’s idle speed and may stall frequently. Again, this can be extremely dangerous when on the road. DPF filters are fitted to all modern diesel vehicles and were introduced around 2009 to comply with Euro 5 exhaust emissions rules, some vehicles were fitted with them slightly prior to this. Only Got 5 Minutes?

If your car is low on fuel, it may refuse to begin a DPF regeneration. It’s always good practice to ensure that the fuel tank in your car is sufficiently full. Aside from causing problems with the DPF regeneration process, running a car on low fuel can cause a whole host of other issues. What Happens During A DPF Regeneration? Our Googling of DPF cleaners has unearthed some companies offering a DPF cleaning services. This type of filter off service is used widely in commercial application such as HGVs and construction vehicles. With the DPF cleaning gun, you can spray a cleaning fluid straight onto the DPF via the pressure sensor or vacuum hole. The gun is simply filled with Launch DPF cleaning fluid and connected to a compressed air line, enabling you to spray at pressure into the DPF. JLM Diesel Particulate Filter Cleaner is one of the best diesel particulate filter cleaners on the market. JLM DPF Cleaner contains a high concentration of the active additive. There's no need to remove the DPF Filter, just pour the JLM DPF cleaner into your diesel fuel tank. The EGR valve begins working once the engine is started and is up and running calculating the correct operating temperature and as the speed increases. Steadily and slowly, the EGR valve regulates the flow of exhaust gases. Once your car starts to slow down and the engine stops, the EGR valve will return to its closed position and prevent the flow of exhaust gases. What Are The Symptoms of a Failing EGR Valve? I have been adding this additive roughly every 1500 to 2000 miles for more than 3 years now and can’t praise the product highly enough and feel that I have proved that it ‘works’. Recommended. Once I understood how these emissions controls worked, it’s not that hard to see how problems are encountered and how straightforward (& cheap) the fixes can be. I’m loving the torquey diesel drive again and have no qualms about running this car up to at least 150k+ miles. Reply I was put off buying a diesel car for most of the last 10 years as your average mechanic (inc. many main-dealer ones) didn’t have much of a clue about EGR/DPF issues. Their solutions invariably revolved around expensive component replacement or it being ‘time to trade your car in’. Many mechanics, and I, understand how these systems work now as they’ve been around for a good few years, and earlier this year I traded in my (4 month old) petrol MX5 for a diesel Dacia Duster (circumstances dictated the need for a 4 seater). However, we know that this isn’t always convenient, and it’s not the most reliable way to take care of your car’s filter.

Because JLM cleaners contain less iron than other manufacturers' cleaners there is also less ash build-up in the diesel particulate filter. As a result, the service life of the filter is prolonged. Some of these products will even go the extra step, cleaning some of your diesel engines internal parts and lessening the chance of future build-ups. This will promote efficient running, long-term reliability and excellent performance for your vehicle. The improvement in fuel economy could also lead to these products actually saving you money over the following months and years. This could be just the solution you were looking for.

If your diesel car is fitted with a DPF, it’s imperative that you use DPF compliant engine oil. Using an oil that doesn’t meet the required specifications for your engine can result in catostrophic failure. This will depend on the types of journey you do. If you drive on a motorway regularly for extended periods of time, you’ll need to use DPF cleaner less often than a typical “around town” driver. A fast and effective cleaning of the DPF is promised, via direct application into the filter housing with the included tube. The thorough cleaning power should prolong the service life of the filter, thanks to reduced hydrocarbon and soot emissions and lowered temperature at which the soot can be removed from the DPF. JLM claims that the product contains high levels of active ingredients to clean and dissolve the dirt. Other manufacturers add more iron to the additive to achieve the same results and advantages as JLM. The result is an increase in the amount of ash in the filter, which means that the filter must be cleaned more often and does not last as long. DPF’s have been fitted to comply with European emissions regulations and it is illegal to alter or remove the system.
