They are both good brands, and the original MB fluid is not that much more. And the fluid doesn't need changing frequently, the recommended interval is 40,000 miles I think, but double that is fine as long as you change the filter at the same time. Change the filter every 2nd fluid change if you like to change your fluid every 40,000 miles. If no Mercedes scanners are available, at least try to read the codes using a generic OBD II scanner. The generic OBD II codes are not as precise as the proprietary Mercedes codes but they might shed enough light to have a good enough diagnosis. For example, if a code P0715 is read, then it is fairly certain that it is caused by the speed sensors. Highly Friction Modified ATF: This fluid is mainly recommended for Honda, Acura, Toyota, Jeep, Lexus, and Saturn cars with automatic transmission. Start the car and wach fluid flowing out of your drain pipe, let few litres out, stop and refill box with 2 litres of fluid.

If you don’t see a leak, there could be an internal issue that needs to be diagnosed by a mechanic. Manual transmission lubricants can be recognized because of their viscosity (their SAE number) and because of the API GL standards they must meet. The viscosity of the manual transmission fluid Some manufacturers produce cars with sealed transmission units and claim that the oil or fluid they use will never need changing. if I wait for a while, sometimes 3 seconds, sometimes up to a minute or two, and try again a few times eventually the shifter always moves forward and lets me put the car into Park again As an example... The last time I bought original MB 236.14 it was around €25 per litre. An equivalent single-spec fluid cost around €11 per litre. I can't remember the brand, maybe Meyle or Febi.Obviously, that’s easy said than done with components that are in constant connection with each other. Everyday operation will cause general wear, leaving tiny fragments and debris floating in your transmission fluid. Debris in your transmission fluid We have a wide variety of products from top brands including high quality Wynn oil and Comma oil , alongside our leading range of own-branded gearbox lubricants. Use our gearbox oil selector tool to find the right oil for you. Changing your gearbox oil is part of a routine maintenance schedule, but if you notice a leak or swap your gearbox over, it’s crucial to replace the fluid (and fix the leak!). To do this smoothly and efficiently, and through the maze of filters, metering valves and tiny orifices it has to, it needs to stay as clean and as pure as possible.

Gearbox oil keeps the complex cogs and machinery inside gearboxes performing perfectly. Depending on your car or van, you may only need to change the oil in your gearbox every 30,000 - 60,000 miles! Changing it can ensure a smoother ride and prolong your gearbox’s lifespan. It’s cheap to do and simple enough - with Halfords. Over time, the transmission may get damaged. You will not notice it right away, but you will surely see this after a few thousand miles. You may also notice that the car jerks when you change gears or that such gears feel stiff. If you have an automatic transmission, you may start feeling the clutch slipping when you accelerate.Dexron VI: This product is the enhanced version of the Dexron III oil. It offers high thermal stability, an excellent performance even with low temperatures, and it is a great antioxidant. for ZF automatic transmission "ZF 4 HP 20" and the automatic transmission oil circuit of the VW automatic transmission "AG4" Automatic transmission fluid carries many additional additives and extras compared to traditional engine oil. If you really want to know how many, and how much more work it carries out, here’s your list: Fluid transmission oils (ATF), sheet 236.12, for 7-speed automatic transmissions are also downwardly compatible for all 5-speed automatic transmissions. The “once at 39k mi” service did not officially get into the “Maintenance Booklet 2007 Passenger Cars” until the 2007 model year.

TIP: If this is your problem, look it up in the owner’s manual. A section should show you how to get the car out of the park using a screwdriver or similar object.A healthy ATF should appear almost clear and have a slightly sweet smell. If you apply a single drop to a paper towel, it should spread out to around a 3cm width, with no discolouring or spots. Symptoms of poorly operating transmission fluid Whenever shifting doesn’t occur as it should, it could be related to low fluid. Irregularities can present themselves as a slamming sensation or a delay. If you're not sure, transmission fluids on lists number 236.12 or 236.14 are safe choices for most 5-speed and 7-speed transmissions. (Fluid 236.11 is for cars which have the ZF transmissions): The easiest way to find out which it is is to read what it says on the label. If the oil you’re considering using doesn’t have a label, then do yourself a big favour and get rid of it straight away. You shouldn’t need to fill the transmission fluid unless there is a leak or defect. Look for leaks under the car to determine where the problem is coming from.

When the transmission is in this “electric” Limp Home mode, it feels like it is completely shot. Many times (actually I will go out the limb and say most of the time) you do not need a rebuilt transmission or a new ETC.

Automatic transmission fluid

Rebuilding transmission is above the average DIYer and should be handled by special transmission shops or dealers so this FAQ stops the major mechanical problem discussion here. Now fast-forward to 2018. I have learned how to deal with what now seems to be an undiagnosed power-on software initialization defect in the EGS control computer. My car has just passed the 200,000-mile mark, and after 16-plus years I would probably keep it for another 100,000 miles if not for the rust gradually working its destructive magic on all of the major body panels and, most notably, the driver’s side front spring mount. Here is a more detailed list of the signs of low transmission fluid to look for: 1. Slipping Transmission Over the years there have been different types of ATF oil or trans fluid developed by different manufacturers and the introduction of new technologies.
