Best Known For: Nelly is an American rapper and singer known for such hits as 'Country Grammar' and 'Dilemma.' So, four of us descended on The Bangla on a significant date for me the 17th of July, on a warm sunny evening to say adios, once again we were warmly welcomed by Tops and his team with a very warm smile and firm handshake. When went to pay , was asked if all ok - advised re the delays and did ask if ‘older waiter’ that served us ( and banged box down ) was manager - he wasn’t !! Did assure us they would try better next time - I did point out that they had missed a bottle of wine off the bill ! Thanked us for honesty and that was that !!

Known previously as Bangla fusion - been going there for 20 plus years and measured all other Indian restaurants against it for both service and Food so was disappointed with change of ownership !! Here we are, at the far end of the pool room, standing near the patio doors - leading to the secluded courtyard. Although not an original part of the Inn, this room has been quite tastefully designed, and does not pretend to be a copy of any other part of the building. This room, with its opened apex ceiling, houses two pool tables, a jukebox and pin-ball machine. All of this is more of an annex, and shouldn't detract from the uniqueness of the rest of the Pub. This is - at the end of the day - a real and operational Pub, with real people (well maybe a few exceptions there!), and not a museum.For want of a better description, this small open room lies between the main corridor and the Scullery. Incidentally, it has been suggested that the large wooden Press, that we are facing at one end of this room, could well have been a Linen Press - as it has large wooden draws beneath, which could have been used for linen storage. Anyone any ideas? The added addition of hard bits of what can only be described as some kind of bone in both our bacon portions was an unwelcome surprise. Cheap bacon we think. Southern-style fried steak served over mashed potatoes with pepper gravy and drunken collard greens Pilau rice from the extensive rice dishes on offer, soft fluffy and well-seasoned. And of course, no Indian meal would be complete without some bread, this took the form of peshwari naan, soft sweet and so fresh it was delicious. The piano is quite often played - preferably by someone who can - adding to the overall ambience. Only just visible between the door and the fireplace, is an old wine cooling chest.

I have a lot of respect for the previous incumbent of this establishment, Top’s or Lal, who ran a brilliant well-oiled dining out experience, but sadly like all good things, they come to an end and as one door closes, another door will open, and it has here in the shape of Nellie the Elephant. The hustle and bustle were amazing, chitter chatter, laughter and the clatter of plates filled the air. It's always great to see new businesses setting up shop in North East Lincolnshire – especially in the current climate – so I was eager to go down to Nelly's Café on opening day and try the food for myself. Myself and a number of friends now refer to this small room as 'The Office'. It's here we'll often assemble to put the world to rights. Stepping inside the bustling café at lunchtime, the first thing I saw was a huge board listing the wide range of meals on offer. I was glad there was so much to choose from.Adjacent left to the main fireplace is an old upright piano. The function room is regularly occupied with jazz bands, folk singers and poets.
