A glorious full-colour edition of a much-loved classic. A celebration of words and pictures from the creator of Paddington Bear, Michael Bond, and contemporary genius and internet drawing sensation Rob Biddulph! Living in the magical Herb Garden, Parsley the lion is never quite sure what’s going to happen to him next . . Dill uses a conch shell to listen to all the sounds of the sea, but when the others try they cannot hear anything.

Healing Herb: The medicinal or folkloric properties of certain herbs is often brought up. In "The Chives Catch Colds", Parsley takes on the role of a doctor and recommends various herbs as relief for certain ills - specifically, chamomile for colds and toothache and marigolds for itchy skin. The Herbs consisted of a fantasy mix of human and animal characters inhabiting the magical walled garden of a country estate. At the beginning of each episode, the narrator (Gordon Rollings) spoke the magic word, "Herbidacious", which caused the garden gate to open. Dill's Garage, The Endurance Test, Parsley's Insomnia, Dill Learns French, Mahatma Dill, The Quiz, School Prize, Ugh Day, On Strike and Taxi Service Sir Basil – A bumbling aristocratic huntin', shootin' and fishin' type with an enormous red nose (perhaps to suggest a drinking problem). He described himself the "King of The Herbs" (the Greek name for basil being βασιλικόν φυτόν, or "royal plant"). Despite this he actually had little authority and was largely under the thumb of his wife. He wore a deerstalker and a monocle that sometimes fell out. Despite his fondness for hunting and fishing, he wasn't particularly good at either.Signor Solidago – Signor Solidago is an opera singer from Italy who attempted to teach Sage (and very briefly, Parsley) to sing. He failed miserably on both counts, eventually storming out of his own classroom. Magic Realism: Despite the fairly realistic look of the garden, it's shown that magic is real in this setting. The garden itself is said to be magical in nature - all the plants growing there have the curative properties they are said to have in folklore. Then there's a lion, a dog and an owl as Planimals running around, a witch who brews potions and casts spells, and a baby dragon, among other unusual sights. The Chives – The Onions' ten children, the pupils in Mr. Onion's school. They were always referred to collectively as "The Chives" and never given individual names. It was not even specified whether any of them were male / female. Pashana Bedhi's snake escapes from his basket, and everyone confuses him with Bayleaf's garden hose.

Tarragon gets one where he warns the viewer that things 'seem to disappear' when he's around, as he mischievously burns up anything he can get his paws on.Sir Basil – A bumbling aristocrat with an enormous red nose. He described himself the "King of The Herbs" (the Greek name for basil being βασιλικόν φυτόν, or "royal plant"). Despite this he actually had little authority and was largely under the thumb of his wife. He wore a deerstalker and a monocle that sometimes fell out. Despite his fondness for hunting and fishing, he was not particularly good at either. Set inside a walled garden on a fancy country estate, the show follows the antics of a series of characters named after or personifying different kinds of herb. At the beginning the narrator (Gordon Rollings) would introduce the topic of each episode, before speaking the magic word "Herbidacious!" to open the garden gate and allow the viewers to "enter" the garden. Also notable was the fact that each character had a short "I Am" Song that varied from episode to episode, establishing the character's personality and current mood/predicament. While Parsley the lion was the main focus character, various episodes would be dedicated to other individuals in the garden. Meaningful Name: All of the characters are named after herbs - Parsley the Lion, Dill the Dog, Bayleaf the gardener, Sir Basil and Lady Rosemary etc. Tarragon's name is a double-meaning, as his plant's name comes from the Middle French targon, meaning "dragon", and the plant's species name dranunculus means "little dragon". Which is what he is.

All the Herbs, except Belladonna the Witch, come together to secretly celebrate a special day, but Parsley is not allowed to know about it for some reason. Sage is still out of his tree which leads to trouble with Constable Knapweed. It is up to Pashana Bedhi to save the day for Sage. The Chives, belonging to Mr. Onion and his wife, catch a cold during a lesson, prompting Parsley to search for a cure for them. Miss Jessop's constant tidying is upsetting everybody and it soon decided that she needs a husband. But Bayleaf is not happy when he hears who the first choice is.

Parsley made his debut in 1968 in the children’s animated TV series The Herbs, written by the creator of Paddington Bear, Michael Bond. Capturing the hearts of viewers, he went on to star in his own TV series The Adventures of Parsley in 1970, as well as in a series of books and on a wide range of merchandise. Dill decides to host a special day, charging visitors to look round his kennel. Unfortunately, it's too popular and, as a result of becoming overcrowded, his kennel is destroyed. Parsley offers visits to his den instead. A book compiling the stories of several episodes, The Adventures of Parsley the Lion, was also released.

When Parsley goes to sleep to try and sleep off an illness described as "Ugh", he has a dream in which he consults other Herbs for help. Parsley holds a quiz with Constable Knapweed, Bayleaf and Dill as contestants. Dill gives many silly answers to the questions but still manages to win.Dill uses a crystal ball to tell people's fortunes. Each fortune ends with Dill being presented with a gift of bones. He eats them all and ends up with stomach ache.
