Elle Driver (Daryl Hannah) whistles the theme from Twisted Nerve (1968) while entering the hospital. The whistling from Bernard Herrmann's composition is isolated until Elle enters a changing room. The name of the book that Esteban is reading is "The Carrucan's of Kurrajong" by Jasmine Yuen. This is not a real book; the book functions not only as a prop but as an inside joke. It's a tribute to a member of the film crew, 'Jasmine Yuen Carrucan'. Kurrajong is a town in Australia - Jasmine Yuen Carrucan is Australian. In other words, the Carrucans who live in Kurrajong (the native aboriginal name for a town). Kurrajong is located in the far north west of Sydney between Palm Beach and the Blue Mountains (near Richmond). Kurrajong is a species of bottle tree native to Australia and New Guineas as well as New Zealand from 50m years ago. (Kurrajong comes from Dharuk Garraju, the language of a now extinct Aboriginal tribe, and means "fishing line" as fishing lines were made from kurrajong bark.) O-Ren and her party are enjoying themselves when O-Ren senses something threatening. She throws a small dart with a red tassel through the paper wall to lodge in a beam in the hallway outside, startling the Bride, who is lurking near the private room. O-Ren sends Gogo to look around, but the Bride has braced herself against the ceiling and Gogo doesn't see her. The Bride enters the toilet and while stripping off her leathers, hears "Auld Lang Syne," the distinctive ring-tone of Sofie's mobile. When Chiaki Kuriyama (Gogo) was shooting the scene where she flings her ball and chain out, she accidentally hit Quentin Tarantino on the head while he stood by the camera.

The Bells" sign seen on the letterbox at the beginning of Chapter One was given to Uma Thurman's stunt double Zoë Bell by Quentin Tarantino. Bell presented it to her parents, The Bells. Career Resurrection: This film gave Uma Thurman a much-needed career boost after a dry run in the late '90s with the failures of Batman & Robin and The Avengers (1998). She had a few years of renewed exposure before her on-set injury (see below) limited the number of films she could safely work on.The film is a departure from most of Quentin Tarantino's films in that a number of actual products/brand names/etc. appear in the movie. Tarantino usually makes an effort to avoid product placement in his films. The next time we will see our heroine, having left Hattori Hanzō’s chambers (a cocoon, of sorts, primed for a certain metamorphosis), is motoring through the streets of Tokyo. She remains The Bride only from a purely semantic standpoint —long gone are the white dress, lace veil, and strikingly swollen belly, replaced by a yellow jumpsuit lifted clean off the celluloid from 1978’s “Game of Death.” She appears, you could say, in immaculate Bruce Lee drag. Enforced Method Acting: As mentioned below on Hostility on the Set, Uma Thurman and Daryl Hannah didn't exactly have the most friendly of relationships, which makes the Bride and Elle Driver's mutual antagonistic behavior towards each other all the more authentic. Shin'ichi Chiba makes katanas in real life. In the movie, his character Hattori Hanzo is a renowned katana maker who has taken a blood oath to never create an instrument of death again. Although he's a famously skilled and prolific killer, the character of Bill is not shown to kill anyone himself on screen. The only person he wounds on screen (Beatrix) survives. David Carradine as Bill (code name Snake Charmer), the former leader of the Deadly Vipers, the Bride's former lover, and the father of her daughter. He is an unseen character until Volume 2.When Tarantino planned to cast Gogo and Yuki Yubari, his first choices were Chiaki Kuriyama and Ko Shibasaki. Both had roles in the 2000 hit, Battle Royale (2000). Was the first Oscar DVD to arrive in Academy mailboxes in 2004. It ironically received no Academy Award nominations. Sakichi Sato as "Charlie Brown", a House of Blue Leaves employee who wears a kimono similar to the shirt worn by the Peanuts character. Approval of God: Some Norwegian amateur actors decided to make a parody of the film titled "Kill Buljo". It became a success in Norway, and Tarantino himself enjoyed it greatly.

A shot of the rest of the Deadly Vipers gang introduces O-Ren Ishii ( Lucy Liu), codename Cottonmouth, now head of the Tokyo yakuza. This is not a world, says Tarantino, but a “set.” These are not clothes, but a costume. A very famous costume, too, as pop culture (and the film’s own promotional materials) would have it: though “Kill Bill” (title aside) conceivably stars a Bride, the film’s most basic icon is not the dress but the jumpsuit—a sort of gendered armor for the kind of masculinized violence she must wreak at the House of the Blue Leaves. The Bride's yellow outfit is the same outfit worn by Bruce Lee in his final film, Game of Death (1978). Also changed from the original script - the story of Pai Mei is no longer told in a Jeep on the way to the cruel master's temple. Rather, it is now unfolded in front of a campfire somewhere in the Chinese countryside, the night before Bill and The Bride arrive. With the aid of a flute (one of the silent flutes from Circle of Iron (1978)), Bill tells the tale of Pai Mei in a "Peter and The Wolf" type fashion. Although "Kill Bill" was meant to play as one whole movie, "Vol. 2" is unofficially Quentin Tarantino's first sequel. Daryl Hannah owns the car (a 1980 Pontiac Trans-Am) her character drives in the film. However, she only owns the one that was used for promotional shots, because Michael Madsen got the working Trans-Am before she got to it. A movie poster for Mr. Majestyk can be seen in Budd's trailer. The film was an Elmore Leonard adaptation, and starred one of Tarantino's favorite actors Charles Bronson. The film is also mentioned in True Romance. Ability over Appearance: Quentin Tarantino originally intended to cast a Japanese actress to play O-Ren Ishii, but before casting began, he saw Lucy Liu's work in Shanghai Noon, and immediately changed O-Ren into a Chinese-Japanese-American so that Liu could play the part.a b c d e f g h Otto, Jeff (April 13, 2004).
