In 2017 I won an episode of the ITV (the UK-based national television channel) cooking competition show, 'Gordon Ramsay's Culinary Genius'. I took my children on holiday to Sicily with the prize money.

Photography is a mix of Cornish views, moody landscapes, and cleverly photographed food shots, reflecting the sentiments of the season; bright for Spring, warm for Summer and cool blue for Winter. Christmas is obviously a big deal in the Scott household with a whole chapter devoted to meals, craft and entertaining – think Vulscombe Goat’s Cheese and Caramelised Red Onion Tartlets; orange clove pomanders, and smoked salmon pinwheels. Which is all to say that I’m never going to be a fish in these waters. Bread making just doesn’t come as naturally to me as to others. But I’ve still enjoyed getting to know the process of making sourdough with the recipes from the Super Sourdough cookbook. Rub the skin with a little oil, salt and pepper. This knowledge sit comfortably alongside culinary skills gained through time spent living in France, in Provence, Burgundy and Bordeaux. It’s how she developed her signature cooking, through a passion for simple, seasonal cooking with beautiful ingredients. So what did Joe Biden eat at that day that so entranced him at the G7 dinner at the Eden Project? Well, the menu for that day included Spiced Melon, Gazpacho, Coconut and high note herbs, for the starter, followed by a main of Turbot Roasted on the Bone with Cornish New Potatoes and Wild Garlic Pesto with Greens from local Padstow kitchen gardens. Firstly Emily Scott is a woman who has helped set the landscape of Cornish hospitality and it's not a easy thing to do whilst bringing up a family and I really applaud her approach of good food doesn't have to be complicated, and her restaurants have been great. There are sections on creating and caring for your starter, and some kneading and shaping tips which are crucial to making a good loaf.So far, I’ve made half a dozen recipes, and been able to find most ingredients. I might need to pop to a proper fishmonger for some things though (turns out Morrisons don’t sell John Dory or Lemon Sole). Who knew?
