Design: The design has a classic DJ look that can still be find in modern internet controllers. The turntables feels solid and rugged thanks to its aluminum plinth which helps with reducing possible resonance, although for some it might be too bulky. On the plinth you can find multiple controls that really give it a modern tech look. Lastly, it comes with a foldable dustcover that can act as a record stand. Ultimately, new turntables are more advanced than older turntables, but it all comes down to your preferences. Are high-end turntables worth it? Another great feature that is not very common in high-end turntables is that it has a semi-automatic system stops record spinning as soon as it ends and automatically lifts the tonearm to return to its resting position. It depends what you're comparing it to. But yes, vinyl sounds better than lossy and compressed MP3 files. Vinyl also tends to sound better than CDs because records are an end-to-end analog format.

If you're an audiophile that can notice the subtle differences and nuances of the devices you're playing music on, you need a high end turntable. There’s no denying the fact that the Vertere DG-1 S is up against some mighty competition (such as the excellent Rega Planar 10), but given what we’ve heard, it can go into any such comparisons with confidence. The best just got better. Audio-Technica’s original AT-LP5turntable was a winner. Launched in 2016, its combination of solid engineering, useful features and fine sound was enough to make it one of our go-to recommendations for anyone wanting a sensibly priced, fuss-free record player with the added bonus of a USB output. The source of your hi-fi system, be it a streamer, CD player or record player is a crucial component; as the saying goes, 'rubbish in, rubbish out'. The Pro-Ject T1 comes in 3 versions where the regular T1 has no built in preamp, the T1 SE version does have a built in preamp and BT version also has one and offers bluetooth. These carefully curated bundles provide everything you need to start or enhance your vinyl journey, ensuring that you enjoy your favourite music with rich, authentic sound. The best-sounding turntable is one you enjoy listening to. Some people prefer the rich, authentic quality of an older turntable. However, many of the newest turntables bring you that same sound, but with a bunch of new features and a more reliable experience. Here at What Hi-Fi?we review hundreds of products every year, from TVs to speakers, headphones to hi-fi systems. So how do we come to our review verdicts and why can you trust them? Allow us to explain. The Denon DP-300F is a gorgeous turntable that sounds just as good as it looks. As we wrote in our review: "If all you want is to listen to your records and not have to worry about queueing, premature needle wear or digitizing your records, the Denon DP-300F should be at the top of your list. Its features get you listening to your vinyl records as soon as possible, instead of having to fiddle with complicated components and manual queueing."

Also worth considering is this: do you want to rip your vinyl to your digital library? If so, look for a turntable with a USB output and reliable software to get the job done. In this case the design is very obvious, you want a white turntable. But in terms of build quality you should look for solid turntable that uses quality materials. avoid ones that have a lot plastic components. Good turntables often feature a one piece plinth made out of alluminum, MDF or solid wood. Keep in mind that the Rega Planar does not come with build in preamp. This means you will either have to connect it to an external preamp or to an amplifier/receiver with phono input.

Side guide

OK, there are issues with its rotational consistency and the construction of its tonearm (and its controls), and it leads to sound that's too weedy to be deeply satisfying. Connecting to a separate amp (using the built-in phono stage, or to your own phono stage, usefully) doesn't really improve things enough either.

Whether you're a seasoned vinyl collector or a newcomer to the world of analog audio, turntable and speaker bundles offer an accessible and enjoyable way to embrace the unique charm of vinyl records. Imagine the joy of unboxing a complete vinyl setup that's ready to play your favourite records. Visualise the simplicity of having a turntable with built-in speakers that effortlessly fits into your living space, providing both functionality and aesthetics. Picture the nostalgia of listening to vinyl records with the warm sound and tactile experience that vinyl enthusiasts cherish. If you're willing to spend a little more, then the Cambridge Audio Alva TT V2 is our high-end option. This futuristic, fantastic-looking turntable brings you a balanced and insightful sound, as well as modern connectivity options. In contrast, the Fluance RT81 is a mid-range option with no-frills but a great sound for the price. If the Clearaudio Concept and Marantz TT-15S1 seem similar, that’s because the Marantz was built by Clearaudio to Marantz’s specifications. That means everything about the excellent build quality of the Marantz carries over to the Clearaudio Concept, so this this is a turntable that is as gorgeous as it sounds. For us, reliable means a turntable that's a fantastic all-rounder and good value for money. With that in mind, you can't go wrong with the Pro-Ject Debut Carbon Evo that sits at the top of our list of the best turntables, with an expansive, detailed sound and impressive specs.During our testing we found that one small but notable difference between the Marantz and the Clearaudio turntables is the ability to play 78 rpm records. While most people will never come across 78s, it’s nice to know that the Clearaudio Concept is capable of playing them if you decide to explore older records. The Concept also has a handy speed dial on the plinth, so you don’t have to swap the belt position manually. Bluetooth Connectivity: Some bundles feature Bluetooth connectivity, allowing you to wirelessly connect your turntable to other Bluetooth-enabled devices such as speakers or headphones. This feature enhances the versatility of your vinyl setup, enabling you to enjoy your records without being tethered by cables. A belt drive features a platter that sits on a bearing and is pulled by a belt to spin your record. A direct drive also features a platter, but this is directly connected to the motor via a spindle in the middle of the plate. The motor should be low noise to avoid any resonance while the drive type doesn’t really matter anymore in in the modern turntable, it can be direct drive or belt drive. Do pay attention to the built-in preamp if it has one as that can have a big influence on the sound.

Features: As all high end turntables the Dp-400 is belt driven with the main reason being that it reduces the chance of resonance greatly. It is a 3 speed turntable so even playing your old 78rpm records should not be a problem. One of our favorite budget models since we reviewed it in our best cheap turntables list, the AT-LP3WH earns a spot for the best low budget option. Dimensions: 21 x 9 x 19 inches | Operation: Automatic Motor: Belt Drive | Phono preamp: Yes | USB: No | Speeds: 33 ⅓, 45 rpm | Stylus: AT91R You’re expecting wireless to match wired: It sounds better hard-wired, no two ways about it. But that's always going to be the case. But if by reliable you mean sheer toughness, then the Technics SL-1500C needs to under consideration, because it's built like musical tank. What makes a high-quality turntable?

The rebirth of Technics has spawned another fantastic turntable. While we love the high-end SL-1000R model (so much so that we use it as part of our reference testing system), the SL-1500C is much more affordable, and it's also one of the best record players we've heard at around a grand that includes a built-in phono stage.
