Elamin: That's exactly the tone of it, right? This is more than just an actor having a moment. It feels like a fever dream of adoration. Every day of this week, Pedro has been the main character of the Internet. Everybody calls him "daddy," and I don't mean this like a father. I mean this in like a—well, you know what I mean. In the current iteration of daddyfication, the one that’s embodied by Pascal, there’s more irony. When he’s saying it on the red carpet or referring to himself as the bigger daddy than Isaac, Pascal is in on a joke. The SNL sketch, too, is about how Gen Z, especially, throws around words nonchalantly, and that “daddy” no longer comes with the weight of admitting all the stuff — sex, complexes, bad relationships with our own fathers, etc. — that it did before. Deadly State gives us a barnstorming finale to what has been a staggeringly good season of television.” I haven’t been able to find any strong evidence that IRL moms are more prone to Pascal’s daddy charms and, believe me, I have done extensive research at this point. (I really don’t want to think about what typing “Pedro Pascal daddy” and “Pedro Pascal slutty daddy” have done to my algorithm... but also I’m kind of excited to find out...?) Adoration of Pascal as daddy seems to be fairly universal. But, as a mom, I have to imagine that other women who, as a group, have a unique understanding of nurturing just get him on a special level, you know? Like, we’d raise your TV babies with you. Not that you need our help. You’re so capable... so capable and strong...
In true daddy fashion, he is a spectacularly good sport about constantly being fawned over in this manner, from telling Star Wars fans he is “ honored to be your space daddy” to wanting reassurance that he is, in fact, the “ daddiest daddy.” On a recent appearance on Saturday Night Live, he nodded to his internet title alongside long-time friend Sarah Paulson, who says in a sketch “ he’s daddy, I’m mommy and we’re all a happy family: no crumbs left.” And then there’s my personal favorite moment, when he impishly tells Entertainment Tonight that he was, indeed, “ your cool, slutty daddy.” Just watched this one on MeTV. It is a pretty good episode overall, and the gotcha was indeed fabulous. A couple of thoughts… But how does he know there was a smoker there at all, someone asks. It’s then that Columbo reveals the tiny item he took from the floor of the Donner house on the night of the crime. He’s figured out that it’s the nub of a flint from a lighter that has popped out. And it can’t have been there before because the fatal night was the first time the house was used since Thanksgiving, and the place was professionally cleaned right after that. At this point, it’s almost impossible to avoid Pedro Pascal. Avoiding him is like evading gravity, unfeasible unless one has access to, say, the moon. The 47-year-old actor is the lead of HBO’s The Last of Us, the biggest show of the moment. In March, he’ll resume his role as the Mandalorian in The Mandalorian, the Star Wars television spinoff that will probably be the biggest show of its moment when the series revs up its third season. Previously, Pascal starred in Narcos and wielded hot bisexual chaos as Oberyn Martel in Game of Thrones.

Why has Pedro Pascal become so suddenly popular? Pascal then quipped, "Zaddy is not— there's nothing about old that starts with the letter 'z.'" Pascal then, in the most congenial way, persisted that he was not offended by the comment, which caused Crosson to say, "I did not think I was gonna get into an argument with Pedro Pascal today, but here we are." Sure, Collier *might* have had to reveal he was sleeping with the dead man’s wife, but at least that’s not illegal. And he could have just claimed otherwise; that he was there on some other pretense; who was there to prove him wrong? Also, Collier is not really shown to be a dastard until he offs Nadia. This review even says Karl is among “the least-mourned victims’ in the show. I also wonder if anyone has noticed that Columbo really doesn’t seem to like rogue medical men? He hated Dr Mayfield in Stitch in Crime and took a grim pleasure in bringing down Dr Flemming in Prescription: Murder. The same goes for Dr Collier here. Columbo gains a good deal of pleasure in ‘taking out the trash’ at episode’s end, and he seems to reserve a special dislike for those who fall from their duties of preserving life.
I have to imagine that Pascal’s daddy mode is in large part the work of a savvy PR team that understands the interminable horniness of the internet. The internet is a deeply randy place, and harnessing its power means being able to speak fluently to its raunchy denizens. While far-fetched, the hypnosis murder has always been one of the most memorable Columbo killings, and George Hamilton is a supremely good baddie – vital ingredients that help this episode stand out from the crowd. But under closer cross-examination, does it still cut the mustard? Well, spoiler alert, yes it does! He said it himself: “ I am your cool slutty daddy,” Pascal announced last month at the red carpet premiere for The Last Of Us.
