About this deal

Even though you are my little sister, your hugs during the difficult times in my life, have been like a hug from God.”—Kate Summers

An older sister is a friend and defender—a listener, conspirator, a counselor and a sharer of delights. And sorrows too.”—Pam Brown I tore through Like a Sister - a stand-out, propulsive thriller from such a fresh, original voice. Lena is an unforgettable heroine - vulnerable, witty, and relentless in her quest for justice. Suspenseful storytelling at its best. Loved it!' Caz Frear

My friend can’t be described in mere words. She is my companion, lover, advisor and benefactor; somebody that I can rely on no matter what happens. My friend is like my best friend. Sometimes you feel sad, depressed or bored. but there’s one person who will cheer you up and make you feel better – a friend. But some friends are more special than others, they’re like sisters to you. She’s my best friend, I’ve known her all my life, flower, bird and tree, she’s a friend like a sister and she always makes me laugh. For some reason, I had a hard time getting into the story. I think I would have benefited from getting to hear the audiobook since I hear the narration was excellent. There is a lot of repetition in the story, phrases repeated over and over again, lots of red herrings, but still the most obvious person ends up being the villain. I knew Lena was angry for a variety of reasons and we get to hear about them more than once but I wasn't always sure which reason it was at any particular moment. Like a Sister is a marvel and a must-read story for the current moment. Garrett, with deft humor and a perfect eye for the blurred lines of social media and reality TV, has crafted a gripping narrative of domestic suspense which delivers hard, essential truths about race, class, and makes us question why some women's stories are too often disbelieved' Ivy Pochoda

The plot has a lot of twists and turns to it, and I was fooled at several points as to where the book was going. None of the red herrings seem like cheats though, and when all is revealed, you realize that even the misdirects mattered. It’s a solid story that plays fair with its clues and ends in a satisfying fashion. While the two sisters had been torn apart by Desiree’s partying and by their difficult father, Lena becomes determined to find justice for Desiree. Even if that means untangling her family’s darkest secrets—or ending up dead herself. Friendship is the greatest of all possible gifts. It never fades with time or distance, it’s precious forever

A tasty, if not always tasteful, tale of supernatural mayhem that fans of King and Crichton alike will enjoy. My sister is a blessing in disguise, as she always has a smile and a word of kindness. I’m so happy that she is my friend, I’m so glad that it’s not just my disguise I'm trying to think of a positive i appreciated. i really am. because it is important to me to respect someones creative effort to write a novel. please know that my opinion on this one book in the grand scheme of things does not mean shit. i guess i liked the closeted lesbian grandma who let the fugitive white girl live with her and taught the fugitive white con woman how to make velveeta mac n cheese. that was,,,a good part of the story i guess. I love the uniqueness of this close friendship – it is the blessing of having a friend who doubles as a sister. A sister is a gift to the heart, a friend to the spirit, a golden thread to the meaning of life.”—Isadora JamesSisters function as safety nets in a chaotic world simply by being there for each other.”—Carol Saline Lena is smart and strong. She's also filled with guilt for her broken relationship with her sister and now that relationship can never be fixed. Lena might have a future as a private detective, she's tenacious and unwilling to accept the official story for her sister's death. She's going to get to the bottom of what happened to her sister and no one is going to stop her. But, things get dangerous, someone doesn't want her sister's real cause of death to come out. That’s the best thing about little sisters: They spend so much time wishing they were elder sisters that in the end they’re far wiser than the elder ones could ever be.”—Gemma Burgess

The book as a whole ended with a LOT of loose ends and the killer and their motivation felt very weak and out of left field. Friends can be more than just a friend, I have a friend so close to me, she’s my sister, my confidant, a sister who is a blessing of all times. I love you. You are such an amazing friend. Thank you for all that you do for me and everything you have taught me over the years. I will always be grateful and know that if I need anything I can count on you, like my sister. Now, I get it. New York is its own little microcosm. New Yorkers are VERY proud to be from New York. And I've read other books based in New York where the author had a similar need to make sure they too represented themselves as knowing the city and that OMG tooooourists are just soooooo basic, you guys. But for some reason, the way it was done in this book felt super extra and super judgmental toward anyone not from the main character's neighborhood.Thank you to Libro.fm for providing me with an ALC of this audiobook. I am offering my honest opinion voluntarily. You know full well as I do the value of sisters’ affections; there is nothing like it in this world.”—Charlotte Bronte how that tiktok go? "it was so bad i wanna give you a zero. but that's not possible. so i give you. a one"
