A product's "Manufacturer's Age" range on Toysrus.ca & Babiesrus.ca is provided by the product's manufacturer. This suggested age range may be based on what age range the manufacturer recommends will like the product best, or what age range is appropriate based on safety information and restrictions. Hands down, the BubbleBum. In fact, we’ve now donated our old traditional booster seat and my son uses the BubbleBum exclusively. How’s that for a recommendation?

Like all belt positioning boosters, it adjusts the fit of an adult seatbelt to fit a child’s much smaller body. The difference is that it pulls the lap belt lower on the child rather than boosting the child up – the same basic idea as the Ride Safer travel vest (read my Ride Safer review). In this review, we specifically tried the mifold comfort. Thanks to a neighbor I had the opportunity to compare it to the original. While the bones of the two seats are basically the same, the new one is definitely an improvement! Unfortunately the lap belt fit you see in this picture is typically of what we often see with young kids using the mifold – remember that this joyful sprite is almost 7 and the product is marketed for kids 4+. The lap belt is extremely far forward on her thighs, clearly out of the recommended range that we saw in the IIHS diagram above. In a crash, her pelvis could move forward without engaging the lap belt as it should. Mifold seems to recognize the discomfort of their original model and offers both the Mifold Comfort and the Mifold Sport as more padded, comfort-forward options. It’s not great for all cars If new laws are implemented, the mifold Grab-and-Go booster seat will continue to be sold and used for the safety of all children aged 4+, weighing between 15kg and 36kg irrespective of height throughout Europe with no new, additional restrictions.Read more: Choosing the best portable booster car seat The hifold booster seat fits great for our 8.5 year old

I have seen many, many seat belt fit pictures of the original mifold. In about 80% of them, the lap belt fit is not one I’d be comfortable with for my own child or the kids I help as a CPST. In the remaining 20% it’s ok, but rarely in an ideal range unless the child is close to passing the “5 step test” to stop using a booster seat (around age 10-12). Before you can get to installing the hifold booster seat in your car, there is some preliminary set up. The manufacturer advertises 243 unique combinations thanks to the wide variety of adjustments, so it’s helpful to do a preliminary try with your kid before you’re in a high-pressure travel situation.A big plus of the Baby Trend Yumi is that it’s a booster seat designed for everyday use. It’s got cupholders and plenty of cushy padding. That makes it a great choice if you plan to fly somewhere and then take the kids on a long family road trip. Other folding booster seats like the hifold might not win kids’ hearts on a six hour drive, which of course means less peace for us parents. DEAL ALERT! Our son didn’t get there until almost 7 years old, so parents of shorter kids may need to look elsewhere. But the Cosco Rise LX may be the best booster seat for 6 year old globetrotters who need more hip room and prefer a stable seating area. On the other end of the spectrum, the Rise may not offer quite enough thigh support for the oldest booster riders since the seat is on the shallower side; at 11 years old, my son usually refuses it.
