About this deal

Some supplements are labeled with “trans-pterostilbene” rather than just “pterostilbene.” This compound actually has many names, one of which is trans-3,5-dimethoxy-4′-hydroxystilbene [ 8]. ChromaDex is one of if not the largest supplier for the synthesized version of this nutrient. They have licensed several patents in the field, including the “anti-obesity effect of pterostilbene” which is jointly owned by the USDA and an university ( 18).

Convinced of quercetin’s potential benefits, the U.S. government developed a quercetin supplement for their military personnel. Pterostilbene protects vascular endothelial cells against oxidized low-density lipoprotein-induced apoptosis in vitro and in vivo.

By Diet

Pterostilbene may interact with some medications, including anticoagulants, antiplatelet drugs, and drugs metabolized by the liver. It is important to talk to your healthcare provider before taking pterostilbene supplements if you are taking any medications. Allergic reactions Both have very similar structures, however pterostilbene has two methoxy groups and that increases bioavailability compared to resveratrol. Many traditional quercetin supplements on the market are difficult for your body to absorb and utilize.

Pterostilbene has been found to inhibit the growth and kill various cancer cells in vitro and animal studies. It may also help against metastasis and prevent the formation of new blood vessels that tumors need to grow. Additionally, pterostilbene can enhance function and promote the proliferation of immune cells that combats cancer. Promotes anti-aging mechanismsThe timing of when to take pterostilbene may depend on the reason. Some studies suggest taking pterostilbene after a meal or with a meal containing fat may increase its absorption and bioavailability. Pterostilbene has increased bioavailability when formulated in a delivery system. In an independent study, researchers found fasting results in dramatically decreased bioavailability of pterostilbene. Recommended dosage

The reason resveratrol has generated so much hype is because as a SIRT1 activator, many prominent scientists believe it may mimic the effects of a calorie restrictive diet. That’s the process of basically starving one’s self, but without malnutrition. With that caveat said, out of the 283 research documents on PubMed related to this compound, nearly half (122 of them) contain the word cancer ( 22). Cancer may very well be the most studied topic related to this compound. Cyclists enduring physical stress for three days in a row were nine times more likely to remain well when taking quercetin, compared to those who didn’t.* A tangible strength of this study is in the demonstration that NAD + levels in whole blood can be significantly increased in humans in a safe and sustainable way by oral supplementation with NRPT. Limitations of this study include that only an older population was examined and that potentially promising results from secondary and exploratory endpoints (with the exception of NAD + levels) were not sufficiently powered to make unequivocal conclusions. Still, this study represents an important first step that future clinical studies can build upon. No clinical evidence supports the use of pterostilbene for any of the conditions listed in this section. Below is a summary of the existing animal and cell-based research, which should guide further investigational efforts. However, the studies listed below should not be interpreted as supportive of any health benefit. 2) Mental Health & NeurodegenerationPterostilbene may be better than resveratrol in several important contexts. P terostilbene has higher bioavailability, oral absorption, and stability than resveratrol. A nimal studiesshow pterostilbene has around 80% bioavailability compared to 20% in resveratrol. In terms of therapeutic effects, evidence suggests pterostilbene also has better anti-oxidant, anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, anti-cancer, and neuroprotective effects. Why should I take pterostilbene? At a dose of 250 mg per day (the “HD” pink line), it was concluded that pterostilbene reduces blood pressure in adults. A series of blood parameters were also measured in all subjects, and most showed no significant changes during the trial. However, three measurements did show differences that reached statistical significance. First, diastolic blood pressure was significantly reduced at day 60 in the NRPT 1X group. This finding is consistent with an earlier small trial showing that pterostilbene alone caused a small decrease in diastolic blood pressure. 29 Second, the liver enzyme ALT showed a significant decrease in the NRPT 1X group at both day 30 and day 60. A second liver enzyme, AST, showed the same trend at both day 30 and day 60, which did not reach significance. Third, a small increase in total and LDL cholesterol was observed in the NRPT 1X group at day 60 (about 3% over placebo) and larger increases in the NRPT 2X groups. When subjects were stratified by BMI, changes in cholesterol in the NRPT 1X group were absent in the normal BMI subgroup and were confined to the overweight subgroup. One confounding factor in interpreting the cholesterol data is that subjects showed significant differences in total and LDL cholesterol at baseline, due to the vagaries in the randomization of subjects. Furthermore, the normal biological variation for LDL for an individual has been estimated to be 9%. 30 Thus, it is possible only natural variations in LDL were observed in this trial.
