Description

I think the keys — assuming that you don’t start out with a dead one — are to locate it in an area largely protected from the elements, make sure the horn or at least the trumpet openings are pointed down, and of course power it via a relay. Upon inspection, one of the two functioned perfectly. Otherwise, I’ve heard from a very few people who jumped to the conclusion that they had a defective horn, but actually hadn’t grounded the horn to metal as required of any electrical device. This one never worked, and we’ve heard from other Stebel Nautilus owners who experienced similar problems. But it would be nearly impossible to mount anyway on the slim GT1000 and who knows how it would sound when the horn was pointed downwards, to keep out water, as the instructions indicate.

A new 12 gauge red wire should run from terminal 87 of the relay to the positive terminal of the Stebel horn. If you consider yourself a creative person who loves solving problems and wants the mother of all compact horns, this is the project for you Cycles without radiators won’t have a problem finding a spot on the frame Next time after adding a few drops of oil, I sprayed in some 3-in-1 dry lubricant with PTFE and so far after a few months it is still working.”

From “A.C.” (December 2015): “I read your article on the Stebel nautilus review. I have this horn installed and yes it is bulky and difficult to deal with especially since you need a 30A circuit and you have to create a new one as opposed to using existing circuit. Based on this and our experience with the other Stebel Nautilus we tried, we can only give this Nautilus a “Not Recommended”. Please Note - As with many of our electrical components, we recommend seeking fitting from a qualified auto-electrician to ensure a safe and correct fitting of your new Stebel Horn. We are un-able to offer free fitting with the sale of this product. The relay and the horn, both have a ground wire. I saw in another post that the ground wire from the relay goes to the negative part of the battery..is that correct? what about the ground wire from the horn?

The two wires that are connected to your horn are normally attached with metal connectors that simply slide onto the horn. If it’s hard to remove these, you might need to press down on them to break any corrosion that might be holding them in place. Once you have them off, clean and replace them and then try to sound your horn again. But the loudest motorcycle horn in the world is useless if it can’t be trusted, and based on our experience with the Stebel Nautilus horns, we’d rather take a few less dB but have something that’s going to work when needed.

A couple strips of foam rubber provide vibration isolation and the horn appears to function just the same as the one on the VFR, if not slightly muffled due to the “closed” location behind the Fly Screen.

Additionally, the horn gets exercised 2-3 times a week to let cagers know I’m right beside you so quit coming over into my lane. To begin to install a car horn, you will firstly need to find your horn, which is normally located on the radiator support or immediately behind the radiator and the grille. A horn is normally circular in shape with two wires coming from it. Disconnect the wires The majority of loud car horns are simple upgrades that don’t require a compressor for producing a loud noise. However, some may require small adjustments depending upon your vehicle but overall, its an easy modification.
