The Area and Distance Problems. The Definite Integral. Discovery Project: Area Functions. The Fundamental Theorem of Calculus. Indefinite Integrals and the Net Change Theorem. Writing Project: Newton, Leibniz, and the Invention of Calculus. The Substitution Rule. Review. Problems Plus. Differential Calculus for the Life Sciences (Edelstein-Keshet) Calculus arose as a tool for solving practical scientific problems through the centuries. However, it is often taught as a technical subject with rules and formulas (and occasionally theorems), devoid of its connection to applications. In this course, the applications form an important focal point, with emphasis on life sciences. This places the techniques and concepts into practical context, as well as motivating quantitative approaches to biology taught to undergraduates. Every concept is supported by thoughtfully worked examples—many with step-by-step explanations—and carefully chosen exercises. The quality of this pedagogical system is what sets Stewart's texts above others. Areas Between Curves. Applied Project: The Gini Index. Volumes. Volumes by Cylindrical Shells. Work. The Calculus of Functions of Several Variables (Sloughter) This textbook corresponds with a 300-level mathematics course taught at Furman University. Students should have completed four semesters of college level calculus prior to attempting this course. TLDR: If you are a student, you're probably required to get this, so just buy it because it'll last you through most of the calculus classes that you'll be taking unless you pursue even more advanced math. Anyone who is buying this should definitely use this in conjunction with other resources which I'll mention at the bottom. If you are a self-study with no professor to reach out to looking for an all-in-one resource, I recommend staying away from this textbook. Honestly, the resources I'll recommend at the bottom are probably sufficient for pretty much anyone interested in basic calculus. Curves Defined by Parametric Equations. Discovery Project: Running Circles Around Circles. Calculus with Parametric Curves. Discovery Project: Bézier Curves. Polar Coordinates. Discovery Project: Families of Polar Curves. Calculus in Polar Coordinates. Conic Sections. Conic Sections in Polar Coordinates. Review. Problems Plus. STEM APPLICATIONS: Stewart/Clegg/Watson answers the question, "When will I use this?" by showing how Calculus is used as a problem-solving tool in fields such as physics, engineering, chemistry, biology, medicine, and the social sciences.

Book: Active Calculus (Boelkins et al.) The style of the Active Calculus text requires students to be active learners — there are very few worked examples in the text, with there instead being 3-4 activities per section that engage students in connecting ideas, solving problems, and developing understanding of key calculus concepts; each section begins with motivating questions, a brief introduction, and a preview activity, all of which are designed to be read and completed prior to class; the exercises are few in number. newcommand{\vecs}[1]{\overset { \scriptstyle \rightharpoonup} {\mathbf{#1}}}\) \( \newcommand{\vecd}[1]{\overset{-\!-\!\rightharpoonup}{\vphantom{a}\smash{#1}}} \)\(\newcommand{\id}{\mathrm{id}}\) \( \newcommand{\Span}{\mathrm{span}}\) \( \newcommand{\kernel}{\mathrm{null}\,}\) \( \newcommand{\range}{\mathrm{range}\,}\) \( \newcommand{\RealPart}{\mathrm{Re}}\) \( \newcommand{\ImaginaryPart}{\mathrm{Im}}\) \( \newcommand{\Argument}{\mathrm{Arg}}\) \( \newcommand{\norm}[1]{\| #1 \|}\) \( \newcommand{\inner}[2]{\langle #1, #2 \rangle}\) \( \newcommand{\Span}{\mathrm{span}}\) \(\newcommand{\id}{\mathrm{id}}\) \( \newcommand{\Span}{\mathrm{span}}\) \( \newcommand{\kernel}{\mathrm{null}\,}\) \( \newcommand{\range}{\mathrm{range}\,}\) \( \newcommand{\RealPart}{\mathrm{Re}}\) \( \newcommand{\ImaginaryPart}{\mathrm{Im}}\) \( \newcommand{\Argument}{\mathrm{Arg}}\) \( \newcommand{\norm}[1]{\| #1 \|}\) \( \newcommand{\inner}[2]{\langle #1, #2 \rangle}\) \( \newcommand{\Span}{\mathrm{span}}\)\(\newcommand{\AA}{\unicode[.8,0]{x212B}}\)The late James Stewart received his M.S. from Stanford University and his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto. He conducted research at the University of London and was influenced by the famous mathematician George Polya at Stanford University. Dr. Stewart most recently served as a professor of mathematics at McMaster University, and his research focused on harmonic analysis. Dr. Stewart authored a best-selling calculus textbook series, including CALCULUS, CALCULUS: EARLY TRANSCENDENTALS and CALCULUS: CONCEPTS AND CONTEXTS as well as a series of successful precalculus texts. This work needs to be declared, standard in High-school Mathematics. If you desire a career in Engineering, Mathematics, Scientists, Architecture. More challenging exercises called "Problems Plus" follow the end-of-chapter exercises. These sections reinforce concepts by requiring students to apply techniques from more than one chapter of the text, and by patiently showing them how to approach a challenging problem.

ENGAGING PROJECTS: A wealth of engaging projects reinforce concepts. "Writing Projects" ask students to compare present-day methods with those of the founders of calculus. "Discovery Projects" anticipate results to be discussed later. "Applied Projects" feature real-world use of mathematics. CLP-2 Integral Calculus (Feldman, Rechnitzer, and Yeager) This textbook covers single variable Integral Calculus. I'm attending a university and we are using a textbook from another author (Calculus 2nd Edition by Briggs, Cochran, and Gillet). The book I am using for school that is required is not that great because it is written as if you know your math pretty well. What I mean is, you are suppose to know formulas you might have not seen before. With Stewart he explains where you get the formulas from.Vector Calculus (Corral) The term "vector calculus" is sometimes used as a synonym for the broader subject of multivariable calculus. Vector calculus is concerned with differentiation and integration of vector fields, primarily in 3-dimensional Euclidean space. The content in this Textmap is complemented by Vector Calculus Modules in the Core and the Vector Calculus (UCD Mat 21D) Libretext. Three-Dimensional Coordinate Systems. Vectors. Discovery Project: The Shape of a Hanging Chain. The Dot Product. The Cross Product. Discovery Project: The Geometry of a Tetrahedron. Equations of Lines and Planes. Discovery Project: Putting 3D in Perspective. Cylinders and Quadric Surfaces. Review. Problems Plus. In short, this says, we have integral of a function over a domain. This is equal to antiderivative on boundary of domain. CLP-4 Vector Calculus (Feldman, Rechnitzer, and Yeager) This textbook covers Vector Calculus. There are chapters on curves, vector fields, surface integrals and integral theorems (such as the divergence theorem).
