Description

Daft Punk’s iconic 2010 'Tron: Legacy' score has been vamped up for a second time, 11 years after it first debuted. Tron: Legacy' was also reissued last yearby US-based Mondo Records, including seven bonus cuts that didn't make the original 2010 CD release and an inner image of the duo. Composed by Daft Punk and arranged and orchestrated by Joseph Trapanese, the score for TRON: LEGACY took over two years to complete in a purpose-built studio created by Disney for the iconic duo. It features a stunning mix of electronics fused with a more traditional 85-piece orchestra. From Daft Punk's first single release in 1993, Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo and Thomas Bangalter were hailed as a new breed of electronic music innovators. Following their seminal debut in 1997 (Homework), the band went on to release two more studio albums (Discovery-2001, Human After All-2005) and two live albums (Alive 1997, Alive 2007), winning them both critical and popular acclaim throughout the world. Daft Punk are known as much for their music and technical innovation as their groundbreaking and elaborate visual universe, which centers around their irrepressible and mysterious Robot personas. In 2006, their directorial art house film debut, "Daft Punk's Electroma," premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and in 2007 they toured internationally with a jaw-dropping live show that was an awe-inspiring combination of their musical and visual prowess. Their collaboration with Kanye West on his #1 hit single "Stronger" was hailed as "The Song of the Year" by SPIN Magazine (January 2008 issue), which also saw Daft sharing the cover with Kanye, having been awarded "Tour of the Year" by the magazine. Daft Punk performed with West on the Grammy Awards in 2008, marking the mercurial duo's first and only television appearance anywhere in the world. "TRON: Legacy" marks Daft Punk's first film score. Say what you will about the plot of the film itself, but Daft Punk's score is memorably supreme, and the quality of this particular pressing is nothing short of excellent.

The vinyl, as long as it's maintained, has the CD beat in terms of overall sound quality and richness in tone. Hear it for yourself. Now reissued in an 11th anniversary edition, the new LP is pressed on transparent blue and clear vinyl to match Tron’s visual aesthetic. Its quite simple no one is forcing you to part with your money and the transaction between two people is their business not yours. Mondo's creative director of music, Mo Shafeek, told Collider ahead of its re-release: "When we go to visit the offices at Disney Music once a year, and every time we go the team is very, very lovely and they go, 'so what's your dream list?’,” he said. “'Tron' was always on that list." They not only expand on the synth blueprint laid out by Wendy Carlos in the first film, but weave entirely new textures and ideas from within to create something intricate, powerful, emotional and unstoppable, resulting in a groundbreaking piece of music. TRON: LEGACY has been one of our holy grails since starting the label and we're thrilled to finally bring it to your turntable. The record-breaking number comes as vinyl reaches an all-time high in sales with stats showing that 2021 was the most prosperous year for the classic format hitting the most sales in almost 30 years.

Reviews

Despite parting ways earlier this year, the duo have now dropped a second limited edition vinyl reissue of the film score to celebrate its 11th birthday, with an earlier copy hitting stores just one year ago. Music Librarian [Music Creative/Marketing For The Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production] – Jill Streeter* Creative Director [Music Creative/Marketing For The Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production] – Glen Lajeski Celebrating the 10th anniversary of the film's release, we are honored to partner with Walt Disney Records on this reissue featuring exclusive art by Matt Taylor , and pressed on colored vinyl. For as long as I have kept these LPs clean and properly stored in addition to regular equipment maintenance, they've been nothing but good to me in return. The pairing of the orchestra's vividly stirring, dynamically bold performance and Daft Punk's acidic, punchy electronic rhythms is at its best on this medium.
