Vivien saw red flags behind the fantasy; she took notes, even questioned him. He had sensical answers for everything. Speaking of meta-ness, I was not expecting the finale to have a But I’m a Cheerleader reunion where Lyonne’s co-star from that movie, Clea Duvall, plays Charlie’s sister. How do you cast a series like this that has so many famous guest stars without putting too much attention on that?

As Robson explores in the podcast, Charlie’s tactics in person are even more stunning and sadistic. There’s physical and emotional abuse, sexual demands, psychological manipulation. And it all feeds into creating an environment where Vivien can be persuaded to part with her hard-earned money. As I spoke to more people, I worked out the reason why this guy has been getting away with this for so long is that he keeps the amount scammed pretty low even though obviously it’s quite a lot for the victim. The story also has several interesting subplots which I think I enjoyed more than the main story revolving around Sam's friends. They did mean the book was quite a long one for what it is bout I did find them really interesting. I particularly enjoyed Claudia's story and would have happily read a book just about her. There were times where a literally started giggling-which really caught me off guard. I am not a romance reader in general, so my expectations were far from the great story that I ended up reading. If you are looking for just pure enjoyment with a little twist of laughter and an interesting basis story line, the Chasing Charlie is for you. Johnson: It’s in the script … I literally just tried to get tiny little references throughout the entire thing … I’m very proud about the script for that episode. It’s both about the pop hook of episodic TV and, weirdly, zooming out for a second to look at a real person who’s living their life through through these pop [hooks].Sam couldn't see that Charlie is such a jerk. So, what it made me think about Sam? Probably that she was just so in love that she couldn't see what Charlie is really like, or maybe just stupid. The new true-crime podcast series Chasing Charlie is about as Juicy as they come. The seven-part series follows an eight-year chase of New Zealand con artist Paul Bryan Gill, it involves six-figure cash sums, intercontinental escape acts and it’s told by the private investigator who worked the case from day dot, Julia Robson. That’s the art of the con,” Robson said. “All you end up thinking about is this individual and how you want to please them. So they’ve certainly got this control over you.” That’s something, actually, that we talked about when we go in the first season is if there’s something that we can come up with that’s not necessarily murder that’s on the table,” series creator Rian Johnson told Rotten Tomatoes. “For whatever reason, we never ended up going there. Every single time we got into it, it was either murder or attempted murder. I guess that’s the gravity of these things.” Vivian had some information but he had told her so many lies, like that he was the son of a famous New Zealand family. It was easy to verify that this was not correct. Then I did some surveillance on him and through the information he had given to a hire car company, discovered his name. "She was in her fifties and after her marriage ended, she wanted new experiences."

Chasing Charlie by Kathy Carmichael is an ePublishing Works release. I was provided a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. When their worlds collide, Charlie becomes Davis' beard, to convince his mom that he is fine, relationship wise, and she can marry the love of her life without concern for her sons well being. What starts out as a date arrangement turns into a love escapade. Johnson: As the episodes in season 1 unfurl, you can feel us testing the boundaries of this format and figuring out that we can give a familiar experience each time in that great episodic way but also genuinely surprise the audience. And, to me, that’s not about clever ways of killing people or clever devices for the plot. To me, what genuinely surprises is the audience’s perspective and empathy and shifts of empathy; those, to me, are the tidal waves underneath the surface of the ocean that actually make an episode engaging. Lyonne: We have been having some conversations that have been pretty fun, and I can’t tell you a goddamn thing. When Davis, a confirmed bachelor, realizes that the only reason his Mom is not marrying the love of her life because he would be left alone he knows he has to do something. Not actually get married, heaven forbid, but a fake fiancee might calm his Mom down so she would not worry about him any longer and finally accept her long time friends marriage proposal. Besides he wants to become a cowboy and buy a ranch. He had to take over his Dad's business when he died and has never enjoyed the work. Charlie is a character who has, and does, suffer significant trauma. Natasha, how do you find ways to include levity in a story such as this? Throughout this, Julia explains how abusers manipulate their victims and isolate them from friends and family. She tells us how everything Charlie did was textbook, making Vivien totally reliant on his attention and validation. Most liers will have some element of the truth, so that they can, to some degree, remember their lie.” Robson said.

Robson said she thinks it is "early days" in the investigation and there are still more victims to be found. "If I don't find him, nobody will so I just have to keep going."

Charlie confused me. She is supposed to be a librarian and someone who doesn't take risks. She needs adventure and to live life. I can appreciate that, but her strong personality didn't seem to jive with that early description of her. She was a lot tougher than that and gave Davis and everyone else some serious sass. I liked that she was strong, but she spent too much time refusing to be with Davis. Once we find out why, it was a pretty weak description. If elaborated on, I am sure it could of been a beautiful understanding between them, but it was literally brushed over. There was a lot of issues the characters just assumed the situation or figured out on their own. The attention to detail was not there.
