About this deal

Getting to Portobello is exceptionally easy thanks to a good amount of parking spaces as well as the superb Lothian Buses which run services to the area throughout the day. One of the most notable features of Yellowcraig Beach is the view of Fidra Island which lies just offshore. This small island is said to have inspired Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel Treasure Island, but today it’s preserved as a seabird sanctuary and is home to many bird species including puffins, guillemots, and razorbills.

If you’re on a budget, follow Bath Street which runs to Portobello high street (0.2 miles away) where you’ll find a Greggs and a Bayne’s bakery on either side of the road. Tourist Information Discover wonderful wildlife tours to book and experience in Scotland, including bird watching safaris, whale watching, farm tours and much more! Towards the middle of the beach near the Tumbles Gymnastics Centre, visitors can view the Portobello Pottery Kilns, two traditional bottle kilns that are the last remaining examples of their type in Scotland, while 1/3 mile to the south they’ll find the Portobello Swim Centre, a historic Victorian building that houses a modern 25-metre swimming pool and a traditional Turkish bath.

Gullane Bay

This picturesque village is best known for its exceptional golf courses (the Muirfield course is a regular host of the Open Championship) but it’s more popular for the fabulous golden sand beach that runs along its northern edge. The morning newsletter arrives every day before 9am and the evening newsletter, manually curated by the team, is sent at 6.30pm, giving you a round up of the most important stories of the day. Wake up to the sound of the waves by wild camping on Gullane Beach. Avoid the wind by bagging a spot protected by the sloping sand dunes, but don’t go so far that you don’t wake up to gorgeous views of the Firth of Forth to the west. In summary, Seton Sands Beach is a lovely destination for a relaxing day trip or a longer getaway, offering beautiful scenery and a peaceful atmosphere.

In addition to the cafes on the promenade there are lots more on Portobello high street which is just a couple of minutes’ walk away. Visit the Portobello Swim Centre: If it’s too cold for a swim in the sea, head over to the Portobello Swim Centre. It features an indoor Victorian pool and a Turkish bath, and as it’s run by the council the prices are very reasonable. Things to Do Nearby The grassy seafront area is also a popular spot for picnics (without the sandy sandwiches), sunbathing and playing ball games. Portobello Beach, known locally as ‘Edinburgh’s seaside’, boasts a stunning 2-mile stretch of golden sand which is perfect for relaxing with a picnic, sunbathing, or enjoying water sports. Musselburgh Beach is a lovely coastal area on the edge of the town of Musselburgh, just 5 miles (8 km) to the east of Edinburgh city centre.Once at Portobello Beach you’ll find a wide and sandy coastline that’s perfect for sunbathing and swimming as well as enjoying leisurely strolls along the Victorian promenade which is lined with cafes, amusement arcades, and pubs. Despite being a bit off the beaten path, Yellowcraigs Beach in East Lothian is worth the visit for those looking to escape the city. Walk along the Promenade: Take a leisurely stroll along the promenade and enjoy the beautiful sea views. There are plenty of benches where you can rest and watch the world go by and the promenade is also lined with a variety of shops and places to eat. This 40-mile stretch of coastline is widely regarded as one of Scotland’s finest seaside areas as the beaches are all within a short drive of Edinburgh yet they see few tourists, the sand is clean and powder-soft, and the many secluded bays offer protection from the stiff breezes that blow in off the Firth of Forth.

The facilities are pretty good between the Portobello Swim Centre and the Tumbles Gymnastics Centre (Westbank Street to Bellfield Street) with pubs, cafes, a play park, amusement arcades and public toilets. The highest point in the park is Arthur’s Seat which is a long-extinct volcanic plug that offers stunning views across Edinburgh and the surrounding countryside. Popular areas to visit in the park include Salisbury Crags and Duddingston Loch.

Taste.

To taste, Edinburgh Gin is a triumph! At 43% ABV, it’s certainly not the strongest London Dry you’ll find in today’s market, but on nosing the gin it’s surprising the intensity of the aromas. They’re basically one single stretch of sand but are usually referred to as Cramond or Silverknowes depending on which end you visit.
